It was easy enough to put together. And I feel like it works great on the first ride. But it states that battery lasts for 40 miles and I've gone about 60 miles so far and have had to charge it three times. Not only that, but the push button causes my hand to cramp no matter how I try to use it. I go about 5 miles and it really starts to bother me. It's just generally a poor design and loses power very quickly. I'm super unhappy with the product. Especially, based on the price I paid...

I have a commuter bike made by Priority cycles that I love, but just moved from the flat central valley of California to a town in Oregon and a house on top of a hill and found that my internal eight speed hub was not geared to get up the 15% ramps are you encounter trying to get back to the house after work or loaded down with groceries. I started researching electric bike conversion kits and after a lot of handwringing, eventually landed on the rear rack mounted system by this company.

I thought the price was reasonable compared to comparable systems I’ve seen elsewhere. Now that I have the installation done, I think it looks really slick, is low profile and not intrusive, and I like that it adds the functionality of adding a rear rack to the bike. BUT it must be said that the installation is not nearly as straightforward as the company will lead you to believe. If I could I would give 5 stars to the product but for the installation instructions, it would be 1 star.

A few notes, the kit does not come with any real instructions on how to install it which seems to me a glaring deficiency. When you go on the website there are installation instructions to be found, but they seem to spend as much time talking about how “it’s easy” and “should only take you five minutes” as they do actually explaining how to install the system (side note: when you’re several hours into this install process it’s pretty frustrating to keep seeing these breezy statements about how this should only take five minutes). When there are instructions related to installation they are in a seemingly random order, incomplete at best, and almost actively unhelpful at worst. Strangely enough the most challenging thing for me was the rear rack installation. There are as usual no instructions other than a single sheet of paper that can be summarized as “to install the rear rack, put the rear rack on your bike.” The pieces included are not labeled and it took me a rather absurd amount of time to figure out how to tighten down the rods between the rack and the rear frame. Other challenging parts were that the hub did not clear my front disc brake caliper and rubbed on it in a way that scratched the front hub and did not allow it to spin. Required retrofitting a bunch of spacers into the front disc brake to allow her to clear the new larger front hub with the motor. Another challenging but was getting the electronic box for the controls into the provided space in the rear rack mount. It seems to me this could be re-designed in a way to make it much easier to put that control box in that small space. In particular I found the orientation of the wires coming out of the control box to be rather incompatible with the centrally located opening in the rear rack plastic casing. The wiring comes out of the end of the control box, but then must double back and make a tight turn to come out that centrally located opening in the plastic casing. Made it very hard to get it in, don’t ever want to have to reopen it!!

But so far after riding my newly retrofitted bike around town for a week, I have to say almost all of my criticisms of the product related to the installation instructions or lack there of. It’s pretty awesome to have this extra power! The combination of having pedal assist and a separate on demand throttle for little bursts of extra power is really great. I have the 500 W system, which almost feels over powered, but is amazing for getting up those very steep greater than 10% hills, and on flatter ground can always be turned down to low pedal assist levels for just a little added boost. My bike is reasonably heavy now with the addition of the battery and motor, but it hardly seems to matter when I can pump out so much wattage which more than compensates for the added weight.

Overall the experience of riding with the ebike conversation is that it is like hammering around on my road bike on flat ground (easy to go 20-25mph) but I don’t arrive at work sweaty and out of breath! The on demand throttle is awesome for getting going at stoplights or getting momentum up a small hill. And the longer steeper hills that lead up to my house and prompted me to look at in E bike conversion for my commuter in the first place have been completely tamed by this motor! I still feel in my legs as though I climbed a hill at the top which is nice, but the motor (particularly set up to maximum pedal assist level of five) takes the teeth totally out of these climbs, even if weighted down with groceries and wearing work clothes.

I can’t speak to the systems durability/longevity as I have only been using it for a week, but so far I am very impressed and happy with my new set up. If you don’t want to buy a new electric bike, or have an existing bike you really love but want to use less for pure exercise than for functionality, these kits are really nice.

Decent experience overall, although motor added to my delta trike is weaker than expected (in fairness, though, the sun trike is a heavy bike). Would still like to see a kit with more torque that fits the narrower sun forks. Would also prefer fully housed battery options as the nylon bag batteries should be phased out so as to make mounting much easier.

The product after i got it seems great but not fully tested yet. The shipping was flawed: I received the kit w/o a battery charger but the check off list that 3 people signed ( incl a manager) stated it was there. The customer service was very good in getting one sent but the post ofc in that area was poor in getting the tracking started . The product seems to be working up to the advertised statements so far.

The kits I bought have performed flawlessly. They were easy to install and surprisingly efficient machines. The Pedal Assist mode is awesome and makes the ride so fun. I did have a slight problem during install and the support quickly found the solution for the problem. I should have done this sooner.

Instructions incomplete. Video is incorrect, power on wrong side of wheel. No mention of putting controller into front compartment of battery receiver. Would not recommend this kit to anyone who is not a skilled handyman with plenty of time and patience and experience with bikes. Front tire blew when inflated, and wheel was not properly aligned and had small dent in rim. More cable guides should be supplied, and better instructions for mounting rear rack. A couple of rack components were a mystery to me. Pedal sensor disk did not stay in place without the addition of hot glue. No instructions for mounting the sensor disk.

THIS IS HORRIBLE. I just received this in the mail after waiting for 3 weeks (even though it says 7-10 days shipping and not having any other options). It took them an entire week to even start processing my order and then when the package arrived it was MISSING THE WHEEL, the "tube and tire" of the wheel. Not everyone buying this product is a cyclist and when one sees a picture of a product (i.e. an ENTIRE wheel) you would assume that comes included but it is under the additional "upgrades" and there is no part of the check-out process that double checks with you if you are sure you don't need the tube and tire. Also it is not just the picture, but it is LISTED multiple times that it comes with the "front wheel", that is NOT true. This website falsely advertises with their picture and charge DOUBLE what other kits cost for what they ACTUALLY include in the "kit". I chose this because I thought it came with the entire "KIT" and it does NOT, there are other less expensive options on amazon with ACTUAL free and quick shipping for half the price.

This product is trash.

This company has the most horrible customer service i have EVER witnessed....They didnt honor their warranty when i sent the defective battery back they did their "test" and said it was fine however it still did not work when i got it back..I was forced to buy a new battery at 500.00 which worked fine,,and they still told me old battery was ok and so much for the customer is right....so i have told everyone i know not to buy from this company and i will continue to tell more people...

Easy to install, great service, works as advertised, arrived quickly... but a few things that are not self-evident that I found lacking... 1. A meter that tells me how much battery charge I have. LEED's suggestion of using a device to see how many miles you've traveled is frankly just lame. I understand that to keep the price down they don't offer it, but I would have paid more, and the add-ons seem overly complicated. 2. Clips to dress the cables. Again, if you grouse around looking for them, they are somewhere on the site, but having a choice at checkout would have been better. 3. The battery carrying options are UGLY utilitarian messes. I've hidden my battery on top of a rack on the back, and under a Linus Market Bag, and my electric bike is totally stealth, but the nylon bag is not pretty and not well executed. I would have paid extra for something that looked better, but there was nothing available.

We have a 10k 5.2ah 10 mile kit, a 30k 10.4ah 20 mile kit, and an Ultra 20.8ah 40 mile kit installed on three of our bikes. The Ultra kit was purchased for an upcoming 100 mile, three day bike trip so that my husband would be willing to go. We tested the kit on a 38 mile bike path ride. He rode it with battery power to spare! The kit works so well, we added smaller kits to two other bikes used for cruising around the neighborhood. In addition to how easy the kits are to install, I really like the ability to “customize” them to blend with a bike’s colors. Also, we now have THREE e-bikes for less than the cost of one prebuilt e-bike.

The kit is very easy to install and it is of good quality. This kit was shipped to me to to EU, and got here at a reasonable time, undamaged and well packaged. Overall fantastic experience ordering from Leed, and would recommend them to anyone looking for an e-bike kit!

Having a Trek 7300 I was unable to ride due to physical limitations I have now a renewed ability to ride the bike with the Leed e-bike kit. I weigh 275 and am 6'5. The motor has made it easy to go 12 miles, up 20% grades and maintains 15 mph on flat surfaces with the wind. Have not tried 20 miles out and 20 back to see if 40 miles can be done.
The only problem was I ordered this in May hoping to take on vacation June 18th. The battery was defective. Customer service was responsive via telephone and by early July I was riding. (we were gone June 18-28th which delayed things) The old battery pack was returned at Leeds cost and a new one was at the house when we returned June 28th. Be cautious when learning. The on/off button can be pushed inadvertently and the bike propels forward. If the battery pack and the motor last a few years I'll be a happy camper.... I'd recommend this

I've had my 50 series rear rack mount kit for a year now. It performs like new. My performance data exactly matches LEEDS' marketing. Mandy's tech help was immediate and attentive. My system is mounted on a Surly Long Haul Trucker bike, providing a fantastic, durable ride. I ride at least 9miles every day, rain, cold, or shine. The 500 series is unaffected by any of it. The 500 series is smooth, quiet, powerful. I cannot find a glaring deficiency in the overall design. Changes in my job forced me to invest in transportation. Had I bought a car, my insurance alone would have been $900/yr. The 500 series has already paid for itself in avoided insurance premiums alone. I keep my exercise built into my day, keeping the doctor bills away. Still more savings! I have been repeatedly, sorely disappointed in major investments in my time, but this is not one of them. Thanks to everyone at LEEDS, especially Mandy. That young lady is as smart and skilled as she is charming. Keith Stout
