PoolStar spa shock is hopeless

Poolstar Pool & Spa Non-Chlorine Shock 1kg
This product is claimed to be a non-chlorine spa pool oxidiser. It isn't! It crashed and imbalanced my PH levels, had zero effect on my combined chlorine (the primary purpose of shocking), and inevitably led to murky water and a chlorine "lock" state. I had to drain and refill. I note that the active ingredient is potassium bisulfate. My online reading says that this is emphatically NOT an oxidiser, and its use can lead to exactly the problems I experienced. I have now learned to look for a shock treatment that contains potassium monopersulfate, instead.

Hi Phil, sorry to hear you had this problem. Our supplier has reached out and informed us that this product does contain Potassium Monopersulfate. The only ingredient required to be stated on the label is Potassium Bisulfate as per new GHS7 regulations. Potassium Bisulfate will reduce pH but will not make water murky and cause chlorine lock. Chlorine lock is a phenomenon caused by Cyanuric Acid, which is not a product ingredient. Murky water is usually caused by having a high pH in a spa. We hope this explanation provides some helpful context regarding what occurred.
