My dog has epilepsy and I have wanted to try a low carb food to see if that reduces seizure frequency. It's still early but it does seem to be improving - at least the intensity of them. The bigger change is in the amount of energy she has. She is on a lot of meds for epilepsy and is often lethargic. My pup Penny has been dealing with seizures on and off for 3 years, sometimes every few months to every few days, our vet had her on Keppra and that made it worse, next were other drugs to "add in", which we were not pleased with After much research on seizures, I came away with the Keto diets and how it has helped humans curb the frequency at the minimum, after discussing with my vet she said she wasn't sure that would be wise, but knew I was going to make that choice anyways!
After more research in finding a Keto dog food and still be kind of affordable I chose Ketona Salmon kibble ( I also give her a low salt Sardine with her evening feeding), knock on wood she has not had a seizure in 4 months, I won't say she might not get another seizure but fingers crossed she won't, or at the very least be spread far far apart!
I just wished the kibble was slightly bigger and offered another protein base besides hicken, but I'm glad she likes her food as she was always a picky eater.
