The Religion of the Apostles: Orthodox Christianity in the First Century
If you like the podcast, "Lord of Spirits", you'll love this book. Most of what's in the book seems new to us post-modern Americans, and therefore seems outlandish at best, and heretical at worst, but feels as if the scales have fallen from my eyes. I especially liked Fr. Stephen's explanation of what baptism for the dead really means.

The Orthodox Study Bible, Ancient Faith Edition, Leathersoft: Ancient Christianity Speaks to Today’s World
An absolute must-have for every Orthodox Christian. Not only do receive the Holy Scriptures, but also interpretations given to us by our holy Fathers. I read this Bible without the fear of being mislead by my own interpretations.

Akathist to the Mother of God: Nurturer of Children
The Mother of God is a swift helper! When my wife and I pray for our children, we receive more help than we even asked for.
Every parent needs this book. If you are a parent, becoming a parent get this. It would also be an excellent gift for a baby shower or for new converts coming into the Orthodox Church

Toolkit for Spiritual Growth: A Practical Guide to Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving
It was amazing and encouraging! Short and to the point, this book gave the biblical background and spiritual understanding of these three major aspects of living an Orthodox life given to our Lord Jesus Christ.

When You Pray: A Practical Guide to an Orthodox Life of Prayer
“When You Pray: A Practical Guide to an Orthodox Life of Prayer” by L. Joseph Letendre is exactly what it claims to be. There is no pretense. It isn’t even very long. The audible edition is only 1 hr and 11 minutes and easy to work through in a busy schedule. This book gives the very basics of what prayer should be with examples to support it and then leaves the reader to sort out the rest. The author seems aware that prayer is not something that can be learned completely from a book, but tools on how to begin the process can be articulated in this form. This book communicates those tools splendidly. The rest is left up to practice, discussion with trusted spiritual mentors, and the grace of God.
My one critique is that the audiobook could be more vocally engaging. The information is excellent, but the reading lacks inflection to keep the listener’s focus.

The Lightkeeper: A Novel
Beautiful, gentle, and full of hope, The Lightkeeper explores deep ideas of what it means to choose, to be needed, and to have a home. As I read, I was especially struck by the undertow of gratitude used as a defense against anger and the way the lightkeeper gradually realizes that everything in her life, the good and the bad together, has happened and is happening for her sake, to make her perfect.
I was interested and refreshed by the novelty of the heroine of the book being the one to choose and leave to go where she is most needed while her husband waits for her at home, especially coupled with the fact that it often is her husband who needs her most.
This novel provides a glowing, lyrical picture of how beautiful life and service to others can be. It made me cry with longing for the love and friendship that Shenoda caused to shine so brightly through the pages of her novel, and it made me believe more deeply in the Truth of all these things. Next, I will have to read Herodotus...

The Religion of the Apostles: Orthodox Christianity in the First Century
I am still working my way through the book. I found that it is handy to have your bible sitting next to you to cross reference some of the quoted text. Overall it is an easy read if you like academic type texts, which I do, and it does require concentration on the theme and the sequencing of events. I would recommend the book to anyone who seeks to explore the development of Christianity in the first century and its connectedness to Judaism as it existed during this time.

Healing Your Wounded Soul: Growing from Pain to Peace
Our spiritual journey is influenced by many factors, especially emotional and psychological health. Yet many Christians are justly skeptical or nervous about how the field of psychology pertains to our faith and if the benefits of emotional healing are worth the risks of the healing process. In this book, “Healing Your Wounded Soul: Growing from Pain to Peace,” Fr. Makoul aptly addresses this problem. Fr. Makoul has 16 years of professional counseling experiences in addition to his many years as an Orthodox priest. Fr. Makoul graciously explores situations when people might seek healing from emotional wounds, why this state of wellness benefits everyone: our individual walks with God, our ability to love our neighbors, and our ability to love ourselves. Throughout the book, Fr. Makoul delves into several common types of emotional wounds, their sources, and the path to healing and peace. Although many might feel fear or despair when reflecting upon their emotional wounds, this book offers hope and encouragement, allowing listeners to believe healing can occur. The audiobook edition is quite excellent: although Fr. Makoul did not record the narration for the audiobook, the narrator read the audiobook with compassion and empathy, which is necessary when the listener is listening to sensitive subjects. I highly recommend this book to any Christians who want to responsibly integrate emotional healing into their spiritual journey.

Beautiful set of books, but does not include the nice box sleeve shown in the pictures. Inspiring stories of martyrs. Thought provoking reflections and homilies. A must for Orthodox education.

The Religion of the Apostles: Orthodox Christianity in the First Century
A deeply insightful book about the Old Testament context in which the Christian story developed. The connections drawn here are so clear that they appear obvious in hindsight, yet revolutionized my understanding of the faith.

Building an Orthodox Marriage: A Practical Commentary on the Eastern Orthodox Marriage Rite
Absolutely incredible book! I have learned so much and found comfort and encouragement in these words. Going through the wedding ceremony knowing what each and every prayer and action in it means will make it much more meaningful to me.
