Renewing You: A Priest, a Psychologist, and a Plan
Excellent! Well written by two awesome persons, a a psychologist and a priest, Dr. Roxanne and Fr. Nicholas Louh. Includes great citations and references at the end to keep reading forever. I already read it through once and I am going through a second wave now. I highly recommend it for everyone, old or young to feel the renewal.

I Live Again: A Memoir of Ileana, Princess of Romania and Archduchess of Austria
At the very beginning I should note that I was provided a free copy of the audio version of this book by Ancient Faith Publishing in return for posting my review in several places online.

Princess Ileana was the youngest daughter of King Ferdinand I of Romania and his consort, Queen Marie of Romania. She was a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria, Tsar Alexander II and Queen Maria II of Portugal. During WWI she saw Queen Marie spend long days nursing wounded soldiers, an example of servanthood she would never forget. Later she endured the events of WWI, caught between Austria and Romania as by that point she had married the Archduke of Austria.

Setting her task in this book to not write about anything she did not personally experience, she yet provides the framework of rapidly changing global and national events as a lens to describe her changing role throughout the national and personal turmoil from both fascism and Soviet communism. She served however she could, starting as a Red Cross canteen worker, to nursing, to founding hospitals, a brief mention of her underground activities, serving as a surgical nurse, and eventually being forced to flee Romania with her 6 children to the West as so many others were forced to do. Through it all she never lost sight of her love for the Romanians, and through her story can be seen the heartbreaking impact of the subjugation of the Romanian people as the iron curtain descended.

This book was written in 1951, just several years after her exile so it does not speak of her later years where she became Mother Alexandria, founding Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Elwood City, PA. An epilogue is included to provide that context.

Christian Faith and Same Sex Attraction (2015 edition)
This book gets to the heart of the matter regarding human sexuality, beginning with what God has to do with sex: the answer? EVERYTHING! This book is a must-read for every Christian, especially Orthodox Christians. It reminds us of the gift of God given to us to focus on the other and not on ourselves. If we cannot invite Christ into out bed when we commune with our spouse we are not truly giving of ourselves sacrificially and unconditionally.

Becoming a Healing Presence
I've listened to Dr. Rossi on his podcasts, but this is the first book I've listened to. I will now need to purchase a copy of the book. Dr. Rossi has such a calm and comforting way of explaining his points. The personal anecdotes were beautifully woven throughout the book and perfectly illustrated his points. This is a book I intend to listen to and re-read often. I don't buy many physical books these days, but this is one worthy of my library.

Seven Holy Women: Conversations with Saints and Friends
What a gift this book truly is. Beautifully written in several remarkably distinct and unique voices, I was both thrilled and challenged by each essay and prompt. I found myself deliberately spacing out each story and reflection in the same way that I try to savor something precious: by accessing it a little at a time. What makes Seven Holy Women truly remarkable, however, is its call to very personal reflection and action, while also creating an environment in which sharing these reflections with a group can be done easily. As I was reading, I was making a mental list of other Orthodox women friends with whom I want to re-read this. I believe that such an opportunity for this level of spiritual fellowship is a precious gift and I’m so glad that I now get to share this beautiful collection with others who I know will value it, as well. Thank you, ladies. Well done!!

Just what I was looking for!
Fulfilled in continued meditation of understanding just
How severe sin is. It has made a dramatic change in my thoughts and action hourly. Seeking perfection, though that is not possible as God is the only perfect one. But in my process of seeking that, I hope he see's I’m fit for eternal rest

A great guide for families entering Orthodoxy
Blueprints for the Little Church: Creating an Orthodox Home
As a Protestant who has just discovered Orthodoxy, I have been looking for ways to incorporate Orthodox practices into our family life. Orthodoxy can seem foreign and intimidating at first. It is hard to know where and how to begin. This book is the perfect guide.
Beginning with the Orthodox view of the family as a 'Little Church', the authors help the reader see how each element of life, even the most mundane tasks, can be brought into their relationship with God. The authors include the readings and prayers from Orthodox wedding and baptism services, which are beautiful and profound, as well as the wisdom of the saints on marriage and family.
They give instruction on how to set up an icon corner and steps to center family life around prayer. They offer strategies for preparing children at home for the liturgy, guidelines for regular fasting, and suggestions for almsgiving. There is a lengthy appendix that works its way through the liturgical year with resources and activities to engage children in the celebrations and remembrances.
The authors include many excerpts from regular Orthodox moms and dads who give a candid view of their struggles and successes with spiritual disciplines in the home. I found this to be refreshing and encouraging. This book does not give a list of strict rules that must be observed in every home. The reader is advised to seek the wisdom of their priest and take things slowly.

Renewing You: A Priest, a Psychologist, and a Plan
Much like its psychologist and priest co-authors, RENEWING YOU is a terrific coupling of psychological insights and Christian faith-based principles in one encouraging volume. The chapters are filled with Scripture-based examinations of not only what we are called to do and be in our lives, but thoughtful reflections on how to work through the struggles that we face in our attempts.

Each chapter addresses a different topic and includes various specific examples of changes we can make in the given area. There are also multiple prompts for self-reflection as well as group discussion. The chapter on marriage, in particular, resonated with me. After reading the reminder that “God has placed you in your marriage to help you both reach His purposes, not to judge your spouse along the way,” it made me realize how easy it is to forget that and think of marriage in a more self-serving way. There were many similar insights as I read through the chapter on parenting.

The book is also incredibly well-written and well-organized. Though it is about 400 pages long, I read through it quickly and easily. Very much recommended!

Renewing You: A Priest, a Psychologist, and a Plan
I’m not overstating things when I say that this book can be life-changing. It is truly an amazing resource for healing in all areas of your life. Fr. Nick and Dr. Roxanne are so genuine and open with their own struggles. Their honesty helps me to admit where I need help too. It is refreshing to know that I don’t have to have it all together just because, for some reason, I feel like I should know all this stuff by now! If a faithful priest and an educated psychologist can struggle, then I’m okay too. And I can work through it! And I can learn to do better! It gives me hope for my own future. I’ve enjoyed listening to the Louh’s radio program for quite some time and was excited to hear that they were writing a book. It does not disappoint! I plan to read the book again, and again, as I incorporate the principles into my life. It isn’t just something to read through once. It will be a faithful companion through life’s struggles. The questions at the end of each chapter are helpful in really digging deeper into the material on a personal level. For me, this book couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. This year has been one of the most difficult of my life with the loss of five family members. All of them passed suddenly, and unexpectedly. The most painful for me was my younger brother. So Chapter 4, “Turn Your Trials into Triumphs” was particularly helpful. Fr. Nick & Dr. Roxanne spoke a lot about the loss of their fathers and other deep trials. No, it hasn’t made it “all better”. Only a future hope in Heaven, surrounded by the love of God, can do that. But it has helped the healing to begin. And for that, I am forever grateful.

Renewing You: A Priest, a Psychologist, and a Plan
So timely. An engaging and compassionately-written book that explores wholistic renewal for Christians from a biblical perspective. Dealing with broad-ranging issues from marriage to mental wellness and self-care, the Louhs invite the reader into their lives and the lives of their patients and parishioners in order to renew the body and mind in Christ. A practical, helpful and encouraging read.
