Face to Face: Knowing God beyond Our Shame
I volunteered to review this book based solely on the author, before I even knew what the subject of the book was. I have read Fr. Stephen's blog for a couple of years and nearly every post speaks to me about a current struggle. His book does the same, I didn't know that I needed to learn more about and understand shame and how it effects one's life. But I did. What I learned is helpful to understand my own struggles in my Christian walk as well as those around me. It's the kind of book that is best read in short bits so the reader can ponder what she has read afterwards. It is a fairly short book but it is packed full of insights and help for helping in our struggle for salvation. I plan to reread it to go back and absorb more from it.

Audio and Kindle Editions
The Ancient Faith Psalter
I purchased both the audio and the Kindle editions. The arrangement is logical according to the day of the week that each kathisma and stasis is read. The order of kathisma 17-20 may not make sense, but a quick search reveals this is the order it should be read. The use of the masoretic text and the numbering of the chapters is explained in the introduction. I've read some reviews that complain about the text and the chapter numbers, but this is a minor issue in my opinion. While the chapter numbers differ, the content is the same whichever numbering system is used. I'm not aware of a better option of easily obtaining the Psalter in both audio and Kindle editions so this is a welcome tool for use in praying the Psalms in the Orthodox Christian tradition.

Prayer Beads, 70 olive wood beads with cross and tassel
I was so happy to see you had one with 70 beads because I gave to my sister for her 70th Birthday! She has been praying the traditional prayer and has now included another one, " Jesus, I surrender myself to You. Take care of everything." It is lovely and the perfect size for purse or pocket. Would rather have been able to choose the tassel color.

Nearly Orthodox: On Being a Modern Woman in an Ancient Tradition
A refreshing and rare find for a fellow modern woman (and convert from Catholicism) seeking to understand her role and relationship to the ancient tradition of Orthodoxy. Angela's writing is fluid, funny and poetic, delivering poignant and helpful insights gleaned from her journey of faith exploration and conversion.
She is humble and realistic enough to assert that "becoming Orthodox" does not just happen at baptism and chrismation, but that these are just the beginning of a lifelong journey of becoming Orthodox. She also gives permission and allowance for the reality of struggle, especially as a modern woman in this ancient faith.
A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Rock and Sand: An Orthodox Appraisal of the Protestant Reformers and Their Theology
Brilliantly written. Very insightful. Could probably have addressed more of the consequences of heterodoxy theologically
