A bit bummed out the powers that be did not defend the ERISA auditors on the new reporting standard. Since Key Audit Matters are a judgement call its likely at times going to pit auditors between their clients and the peer reviewers. Will client's shop on which auditor gives them the better opinion letter? Will professional judgement be ignored by the peer reviewer if the peer reviewer decides they disagree on the inclusion or exclusion of a matter from the Key Audit Matters paragraph? Will our client be opened up to frivolous lawsuits based on the KAMs? Will the DOL decide to select their audits based on what the KAMs say? Plus, FASB said there were too many issues with that new reporting standard for private companies and nonprofits so they tabled the whole matter indefinitely. As you can see, I am not looking forward to 2021 unless there is clear guidance and wording examples given to us by the AICPA.
