Great product, missing a simple fix for me

The product is fantastic and does exactly what it claims to do. I have a very large (~650 GB) library of music from all different chapters of my life and had no way until to "officially" sort it all into 1 directory. However, the one thing that I would change/add would be the option to use a roughly 20-genre simplified list of genres to rename the files with, instead of the 223 right now. I would make sure there is a direct correlation mapping to a "root" genre naming convention of the _big_ category. This would also allow for the extreme case of extending the current genre list to include more subtypes from the same root.

Although it runs fine (i.e., no crashes, etc.), it doesn't seem to have solved any of my library problems. My recording library is primarily from classical CDs, and many have never matched properly. That's what I understood SongKong's wheelhouse to be, but that hasn't played out. Maybe it's great with a non-classical library, but frankly, I'm disappointed and wish I hadn't spent $65 on it.

Hi Timothy, could you please try running a Status Report on your library and then run Create Support Files then I can take a look and see if there is a reason for this, even for Classical SongKong should usually match over 80% of albums.

Too complicated and not intuitive

SongKong
The idea is actually good, but the implementation is too complicated. It should be more intuitive and there is no direct before and after comparison. The reports are too confusing. A direct display as an example before you start would help.

Hi Paul, using the Browse section of the report you can drill down to any song and see changes e.g https://community.jthink.net/t/tutorial-fix-songs-report/11676 . But the spreadsheet report that allows you to see all songs one song per row shows what fields have chnaged and their new value but does not currently show the old value, we do have an issue raised for that https://jthink.atlassian.net/jira/software/c/projects/SONGKONG/issues/SONGKONG-1392 If you would like to discuss this more please post on the forum https://community.jthink.net/

Well, I like that you can undo what was applied but if you are doing a large amount of files then you are undoing everything. When their are big changes to song titles, which the program doesn't do too well with songs that have feat. artists, I would like to go song by song for those or skip those so I can manually match up. Oh yeah, I prefer digital matches vs cd and a good part have been matching to cd's. It's good to get the metadata I guess from cd version but I will manually have to go in and match to digital version. Ehhh...more work for me

Hi Ronald, I agree that we could make improvements to Undo such as going song by song, or being able to select which fields to Undo. Alternatively you can configure Fix Songs to only update certain/empty fields, and can also run in Preview mode first. Generally people prefer matches to CDs and these are better represented in database, please ensure you have preferred media set to Digital Media, you can also use Match to One Album to force match to particular album.

SongKong made my music usable

SongKong is simply amazing if you have a very large music library that is nearly impossible to manually correct. I used it on my library of nearly 250,000 songs. 1st I applied tags, missing information and artwork to the files. Next I removed nearly 20,000 duplicates. I also renamed files in some directories that were flat with no structure. In renaming the files were automatically put in a structure desired by my Plex software. I am so happy I can't stand it... Before I had this capability to fix my songs I just had the music sitting for many years as it was too difficult to enjoy selections that I really wanted to hear. I am not sure I fully understand the many options and settings that songkong has and it can be somewhat intimidating at first but if you take your time, you will be fine. The default settings mostly worked for me.

Purchased full licence but automatically get converted to the lite version if one does not renew your licence - not nice!
Response from JThink

Hi, that is incorrect your license never expires for the version you have. Now if you decide to update to a newer version of SongKong released after version updates date then functionality is limited to the same as Lite but you can purchase another year of version updates to immediately restore full fuctionality.

I've been trying different software for years that would find the right album cover for my music. I gave Jaikoz a shot and it found the right cover for each of my mp3 files. It took some time and there were absolutely no errors. If it knows the album name, it'll find the right cover for it.

I used to use mp3tag and look things up manually with cddb, freedb, musicbrainz, discogs, ad it changed over time. He runs his own musicbrainz and discogs instance which is built-in with pro. It searches and autotags like beets without the long setup.

I've only been using the Jaikoz Audio Tagger for a few weeks, but am very happy with it. There is a bit of a learning curve to getting the most out of it, but it has lots of flexibility in terms of personalizing the view and functions provided. I do wish the on-line Jaikoz Help page had a search function, though, and that the Revert To Saved function could be applied to an individual cell rather than an entire line, or lines.

Hi kenneth, thanks for the review. To answer your queries in order to undo changes to individuals cells just select, then right -click and use Edit:Undo. Offline Help has search, Online Help is a single document so can be simply searched using Cntl-F like any other webpage.

For many years Jaikoz has been my goto for properly tagging alot of audio files, particularly classical where tags are often problematic or at least inconsistent. Jaikoz provides the greatest flexibility in tagging, including using javascript type scripting, and there's always SongKong then if something a bit more automated will do. For my needs, the cost over the years has been well worth it, the product being pretty much unique in my experience. I only used it on Windows and Mac, I had some issues using it with Linux, but that has not stopped me relying on it on my primary platforms.

License purchase process is simple and works.

Song Kong is really an effective tool to help provide metadata for my music files. I have over 400K music files and I add music in batches. Song Kong allows me to process these files before adding to my jukebox.

I use Jaikoz to correct the zillions of errors in the metadata of the music I buy (on line amd in the CD i rip). I just become semi-crazy instead of completely crazy... Like a 297 track multiple CDs album where all the track are tagged only "1. Allegro", "2. Largo", etc., instead of "BEETHOVEN Sonata for Violin Sonata and piano,No. 5 in F major, Op. 24: III. Scherzo: Allegro molto", etc.

Having discussed with Jan on the forum the issue was that another application had written metadata tags incorrectly using the wrong encoding so when read by SongKong not displayed as expected.
