We loved Our Star Spangled Story! We spread the lessons out over two years and are just finishing up book two. I couldn't be more pleased with the curriculum. The narrative style lessons made it very easy to read and interesting. We learned about several historical figures I never heard of!
We thoroughly enjoyed the unit activities and the rhythms and rhymes. They were such a fun addition to history.
I highly recommend including the literature. The stories have us a different perspective on historical time periods and grew my son's thirst for reading.

We were almost done with our first year of homeschool when I discovered NotGrass! I ordered 50 States thinking it would be our history program for next year. When it arrived we were so excited that we started right away!! As a prior elementary teacher, I love the lesson questions that follow along with the Atlas activities that bring it all together! We also purchased the bundle that included chapter books which have been a wonderful addition. These are books we most likely wouldn’t have chosen on our own, but just wrapped up the first one Rabbit Hill and loved it! I will be continuing with NotGrass once we wrap up 50 States! We do things a bit differently. I have always read books at bedtime with each of my kids. They used to pick 5 books each (or comparable chapters). Now that we're using Our Star Spangled Story, 3 nights a week they pick 4 books and I bring our history book. The pictures are great and the lessons are only a few pages so the kids haven't had any complaints. We do workbooks the next day. The best part, I think, is that if the kids are really into something particular I can get some things together before I go to bed (documentary, books, websites,...) Then we can explore further while they work on their workbook. Another great thing is that by moving the reading to bedtime it frees up some of our school time and no one ever complains about that!

We started Our 50 states and have been using it for a couple weeks. My boys are 7, 10, and 13 and they are enjoying it very much. They have learned so much about each state we have studied and they are remembering what weve talked about. The text is interesting, simple and not dry like a lot of text books. There are also a lot of beautiful pictures. My boys especially love working in the atlas journal pages. It's easy and all layed out for us, there is no guessing what activity to do next. This is a very complete us geography option. We love it!
