I love Notgrass, am using 3 separate programs right now for 3 of my children, all different interests and learning styles and there is something for all of them in this, I plan to purchase more programs next year. It is biblical, hands on (for children that want it to be, but doesn't have to be), includes a lot of great literature choices which coincide with the era being discussed in each lesson, makes history interesting even for those that aren't usually history enthusiasts. This was exactly what I was looking for in a American history curriculum. I have three children two that are using this and the baby is listening:)
It’s enough to cover topics and pique interest yet not to much where I don’t have the gumption to add things to it if I want to. There’s no need for extra but you aren’t exhausted wth the curriculum if you want to expand on your own.

It’s pretty good but I wish it would include a little more of the truth and not sugar coat it. Columbus was a tyrant and he forced the indigenous people into slavery and murdered thousands of them. The ones he did convert to Christianity was forced and I’m concerned that other historical facts were sugars coated the same way. I will be checking more as we read further into his history lessons.

Brandy: Thank you for taking time to share your perspective. We do seek to be honest and fair when explaining good and bad aspects of history. We do address mistreatment of indigenous peoples in the Americas more in our high school courses, particularly Exploring World History.

I have been using Notgrass History with three of my daughters for the last few years. I LOVE the History curriculum and plan for this to be our History curriculum through graduation. I was so excited when I heard you were coming out with an Elementary course. We haven't gotten very far into it, but I am loving it. I just love how Notgrass is laid out. I can rest easy knowing that I have one less thing to plan. The only thing I see so far in Our Star-Spangled Story is with the Literature activity at the end of each lesson, I wish that it told you which chapters to read for the literature selection. Now I just need to divide it out to see if we have to read more than one chapter per lesson. It's not that hard, but with the middle school it indicates the chapters to read and that is nice. Overall, I love the curriculum and plan to use all of your courses for History. Thank you!

I'm using the elementary history curriculum for my 3rd grade girl. The lessons are short enough that I do not completely lose her (she would rather do art) and she is able to retain the information quite well.

Rich and engaging and wonderful. So enjoyable!! Even my child who doesn't usually like history is learning AND keeps saying "history is fun." I, as a teacher, am particularly enjoying learning about some dear Christian men and women who were very important to USA history but less well known and certainly not covered in secular history textbooks.
We needed to change the pace of the curriculum to fit our family, but Notgrass makes it very easy to do. We alternate days by reading a lesson one day, then doing review questions/activity/songs on the other day. We do the bigger fun activity when are done with the unit. We take off 1-2 weeks from regular lessons to do some of the suggested literature books. At this pace it means we will do book#1 one year and book#2 a 2nd year, but that is ok with us! Great program!
