Being a rather busy retiree, it has taken me several weeks to get around to using my Silhouette. Since I am familiar with several graphic arts computer programs, I found it easy to navigate the program. The major problem I would find, had I not had previous graphic arts experience, is that the information packed with the machine and that given in the on-line manual is NOT USER FRIENDLY! I have a friend who has had an original machine for over three years. It has not been out of the box! She is not computer savvy when it comes to graphics, and was immediately put off by the lack to easy to follow instructions. I did purchase the guide book by Melissa Viscount, which to me is invaluable! All this being said, I would strongly suggest some kind of beginner's manual that starts with "turn on the machine"!!!
I myself am truly enjoying using the Silhouette.

anyone can follow instructions of getting it set up from the web site, I would have liked an actual simple project to follow along with to get familiar with the product.

I bought the upgrade so that I can cut fabric for appliques. I have been too busy to use it yet, but am looking forward to it. The only negative is that somehow my fonts have been duplicated when I go to all designs. I eliminated some of the duplicates and now when I go to the original file, I see that I removed the originals and not the duplicates. I will have to go back and download them again.
