Difficult to rate this tree as it hasn't sprouted yet (it's been about 6 weeks since it arrived). However, I scratched a tiny piece of bark when it arrived, when planting it (about 10 days ago) and again today. it was green every time. Buds "seem" to be swelling. NOTE: because of the known delay between arrival and planting, all trees were "heeled in" in a large container and 16 trees are in excellent shape 10 days after planting except this one tree. Time will tell, but it looks promising.

Planting of the Trees
This description of planting is true for all of the trees we purchased from you. I went onto your website but the planting instructions do not come up. Although I own a commercial apple orchard, I still most definitely need exact instructions on how to plant. First we used a 2' auger but found ourselves putting back most of the soil that was dug out before we planted our trees. The question is: was this good because it loosened up the soil at that depth or was it excessive? Many of the roots were only 3 to 5 inches from the graft, so to have a two foot deep hole seemed unnecessary. Then we put on a smaller auger which still dug the holes 18" deep but only 14" in diameter. This seems big enough but still the question is, will it be the best hole size for the roots to grow laterally?

I found varying answers on the internet but feel like I should have your opinion readily available. We did call on Friday before the trees arrival, and a woman told us to use the 2' auger, but we are still questioning the best approach.

Arrival of all trees
It took 8 days to receive our trees from UPS. They were packaged very well and the roots are still moist. However, I noticed that any small leaves have turned yellow, so I assume they're pretty dry. I'm hoping this does not negatively affect the outcome of their growth. It will take us 2 to 3 days to plant all of them, but it's really cool right now at about 65 degrees which I'm hoping will be helpful.
