Absolutely loved the race, the atmosphere was fantastic! The pacers were brilliant, I've never seen this before and with their orange tops and times printed on them they really stood out to give you a target. I hadn't run a race for a couple of years and I'll definately be doing it next year, half marathon next time! The Itchen bridge is hard going but with the amazing crowds inspiring you and the views I managed to jog most of it. Highly recommended event thank you! 5 Stars all the way!

It was a very enjoyable race but once again the finish area was too crowded. Why weren't the race stewards asking everyone to keep moving and to get out of the way of runners still coming in? There should be people with loudhailers keeping the finishers moving out of the way. Once again, the "cafe area" was too close to the finish.
Also, people were forming long queues at some portable toilets when less than 200 metres away, round a corner, there was a whole row of empty toilets - more use of loudhailers and announcements needed.

It was a hot day so could have used a water station before 8km, perhaps before the bridge?? Also some parts of the route were quite narrow, making it difficult to pass people or let people pass me! Didn't like the start...again too narrow and would be better to have more areas for different times....space of one lamp post to cover all times between 1hr and 1:15 was not ideal....better last year.

I've done all 3 soton halves and this was the best so far BUT a great day was slightly spoilt by lack of marshalling from where 10k joined the route before itchen bridge... too many slow moving people impeding half marathon runners chasing sub 1.30 pbs. Has left me feeling quite annoyed as I lost over a minute dodging runners from that point all the way to the finish.

Not a bad effort for a small scale event. Water stations were well spaced, and the enthusiastic support by the numerous youth groups along the way was great. Seeing guildhall square transformed into a race village was nice, baggage storage efficient. Special mention to the Itchen sea scouts - great effort! Negatives - mile markers appeared to be a bit randomly spaced, because the stadium was empty, this section felt a bit soulless. Whilst the comparison with Amsterdam isn't fair - there starting in and running through the Olympic stadion filled with cheering spectators, is one of the high points of the race. Also for the marathon course, it would be nice to use the Weston shore line up to Royal Victoria Country park, instead of having 2 loops of the half marathon.

Difficult to be critical of such a great day, the only issue I had, was no water station between Riverside Park and coming off the Itchen Bridge, don't believe I missed one. As I say , a great day, well done all.

What can I say? I loved it! Marshals fantastic as usual. Loved the fact the route was back to front this year so nice to get the hills done first. Best bit of the whole day? That beautifully cold non alcoholic beer!! Ant wait for next year. I think.

This is the first time I have entered the Southampton marathon. I completed the 10k. The whole event from start to finish was fantastic. Everything was so well organised throughout. I will definitely be running there in 2018.
The only negative I have was, is the fact that at the finish line there was a beer tent, admittedly non alcoholic, but I thought this a bit strange and had not encountered one before at a marathon, not on the finish line though! That said, I was handed a pint of which I took and drank about a third of it. I guess my heart rate was racing at full bore still having just finished running, this combined with the fizzy, chemically ridden drink made my vision go funny, making my eyes very sensitive to the day light. Most peculiar sensation for me! I put it it down to the drink, ditched it and drank plenty of water, which made my vision go back to normal. My recommendation is to replace the non alcoholic beer tent with fresh fruit juice or similar venue for the future please. Otherwise a truly great event thank you.
