I was disappointed by the race chip collection. Since signing up my home address changed and I was not given any notice of a deadline to notify you of a change of address. This meant I had to pay £10 to get a new chip made. When I went to collect this chip the two tents were clearly stressed. Half the chips were in one tent and the other half in the other tent. There were no signs telling runner which tent to queue up at. This resulted in me waiting 20 mins in one queue only to be told to join the back of the other queue. It was unnecessary stress before the race.

I was grateful of the pacers at 1:30 which allowed me to get a massive PB. Next year i'd like 1:25 pacers so I can do the same again.

This is the first year I have run Southampton but have completed the same distance at many other venues. The event was well organised, well marshalled and it is always great to get away on time (less time for nerves!). I am not sure if I missed a water station but having had water at mile 7, I ran out of water at about mile 11 and was dehydrated particularly given the warm weather. I was also surprised that no isotonic type drinks were available between mile 7 and the finish as this would normally be the case (such as Lucozade) and may have avoided the number of people that suffered from dehydration (I saw several collapsed in the street). This would have been even more important for those who ran the marathon.
I do love the t-shirts - great design and I will be more than happy to wear that to my gym - also great medal (these things do matter to us complete amateurs).
Well done

A fantastic day with great organisation. Only let down for me was that I was unable to locate the race pacers. Overall , brilliant!!

Very good organization, nice marathon. In the last water station (35K or 38K? in Km), try to give some bananas or oranges for avoiding cramps - my suggestion. The rest all fine, very good...

Brilliant . Very well organised , small queues for baggage drop which was run very well . First race I've ever had to queue less than 5mins for the loo .
The atmosphere & support all around the course was amazing . Lovely friendly encouraging marshals . Great course . Can't fault anything about it . Thank you for an amazing day .

I thought the organisation was fantastic, everything seemed to flow seamlessly. The route was beautiful apart maybe from Itchen Bridge, that was a bit cruel at the end! I would really like to do this run again and if I dont get a place in London next year, I'll definitely be back! (half marathon distance, not sure I could cope with two laps even with proper training!)

This was an extremely well organised event. There were plenty water stations and really good marshalling along the course. The armosphere in the village was friendly with good toilet facilities. Great route, nice mix of of street and parkland, Itchin bridge at the end was a killer ????

Feedback regarding the Mile Fun Run. (N.B. I ran in this and the half marathon)

This was a nice idea, I have a young daughter who gets very enthusiastic when I enter races and is now on the hunt for medals herself. Being only 4 its nice to have events she is able to enter, many seem to have a age cut off, and miss the opportunity to encourage people into sport.

When it came to race day, especially in comparison to the main races, I thought this one did lack in the information provided and organisation on the day.

When we got the race packs it would have been good to include the route, as I asked, and was asked by many other parents if they actually knew where the route was starting from. And some of the helpers weren't fully informed either. I would strongly suggest a route map showing the fun run route in the race packs, and some instruction about what to do with the parent/guardian pull off tags.

Then there was the fiasco at the start where we were all herded into the caged area on Guildhall Square and then had to try and file out to the start line. if this was necessary then it would have made more sense to lead people into the back and fill in front to back. Everyone got out of order and seem to take and age to sort.

The race itself was good through the parks but then there was the fiasco at the end.

I understand now that children weren't being allowed out at the end without their parents there, which is logical and made good sense, but some thought needed to be given for those of us at the back waiting to get through and out. This wasn't communicated back to us, and it took some time before the initiative to hand out medals and water down the line. Might I suggest for next year, if children have not run with their parents, they are separated off and have to wait separately, to be col

Excellent organisation on the whole. I did the 10K and the start was a bit cramped and there was no water until 8kms on a warm day(should have been at 5kms). Good marshalling and support.

This is my 3rd Southampton half marathon, I love the course even though I hate it when I am running up the hills. I am a saints fan so running through the stadium makes it extra special for me. The support from the organisers and locals differently gives you an extra boost. struggling to find something negative. Looking forward to my 4th half marathon next year :)

N.B. Feedback for half marathon, (I ran both this and the fun run and have responded separately for each.)

I feel this was a well organised event, with good information, preparation and organisation on the day.

All the mile makers, pacers and other organisers on the day were very helpful and positive. The route worked well, I enjoyed running past the various landmarks around Southampton. Not many runs can boast that they go through a mixture of city streets, parks, football stadiums and over various bridges. A couple of the roads, especially at the start were a bit tight with residents parking.

Timing gates over the Itchen Bridge was a nice touch, though it would also have been good to get an extra one around the half way point on the course, (around Woodmill) just a track of performance for the Half'ers.

The handouts at the end were good. Nice medal and T-shirt. At the Silverstone Half they handed out these within the goodie bags which sped up people getting through the finish area.

One downside I have heard was there was an issue with some of the front marathon finishers getting mixed in with the half racers at the end, not sure if some kind of barrier system would work, or instructions for each race to keep left/right.

The beer/isotonic drink at the end was good, if you can get that supplier back for next year I would definitely see it as a positive. Its also good that you've obviously engaged well with local businesses. I'm not sure I'll be able to take any up on their discount offers with the Medal, but it was a nice addition.

Many thanks,

Andy

All good except the start of the 10k race. The path immediately after the start point was far too narrow and congested, in fact narrower than the path before the start which is entirely the reverse of what it should be. For more than 100m it was not possible to run. It would have been so easy to have made the path from the start twice as wide as the path to the start, which would have relieved all congestion.
