The Whole Counsel of God: An Introduction to Your Bible
Wonderful insight especially as most of the biblical understanding in the States is either Roman Catholic or Protestant.

The Ancient Faith Prayer Book, burgundy cover
Very beautiful book, nice weighty feel. The prayers inside are really wonderful and the book is simple to follow and tells you which prayers to add depending on the time of year or event. The lettering on the front of mine wore off after several months of use, but I also was bending the cover more than I should have, but none of the pages have worn. There are some beautiful prayers for all situations and they help me to connect with God and contemplate his words. The choices of Psalms are also great, although I do not think you should limit yourself to what is in the book as far as Psalms go. Good book, would buy again, have recommended to others.

The Age of Paradise: Christendom from Pentecost to the First Millennium
The strength of John Strickland's book is its combination of historical analysis with spiritual edification. As someone who loves to study Orthodox writings, Strickland dives into the historical narrative of the early church without being dry; in fact, quite the opposite. Many times I felt myself both encouraged and convicted as he described the acts of the martyrs, of the actions of women in the early church, and an analysis of how a divergence from this historical faith has led to the overwhelming feeling of nihilism felt today, without despair. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

The Whole Counsel of God: An Introduction to Your Bible
Excellent introduction to the Bible, and what it actually is. This is meant for a general audience and should be profitable to everyone who has ever picked up a Bible.
