It’s just what I wanted. Perfect for church and prayers

I've found this book to be very insightful and helpful as I journey through pregnancy as an Orthodox Christian. This isn't my first pregnancy, but I still found this book to help me look at different aspects of pregnancy and birth in a new light. I highly recommend it!

I can't say enough about how much I love this book. I am not even much of a fantasy reader, yet I enjoyed this book so much I might indeed start reading more fantasy again. Sherry Shenoda managed to write a poetic fantasy/historical fiction/romance with a thread of wisdom woven throughout that leaves the reader with a sense of hope despite ... well, you need to read it. I can't spoil it for you.

I have a special love for lighthouses, and this book transported (or should I say, "translated") me into lighthouses all around the world throughout history with such rich detail that I felt like I was inside each one, refilling ancient lamps with whale oil, polishing lenses till they shone, sensing the waves crashing to shore during each storm.

Despite my ever growing book stack, this is a book I'm going to re-read multiple times. I want to go back to those lighthouses. I want to go back to the Lightkeeper's decision. I want to go back to Wisdom's words to her. I hesitate to call this book a beach read because it's a bit more intense, but if you're on the beach, or enjoying a boat ride, or visiting a lighthouse, this is book would make a great companion.

I received a digital ARC of this book to read from Ancient Faith Publishing, but I loved it so much I bought the ebook and am going to buy multiple copies of the paperback to keep on my shelf and give to friends as gifts. I imagine this book will become a cult favorite, and I cannot wait to read more from Sherry Shenoda.

Just perfect to understand, read and carry around with you.

A wonderful gift for men, women and children. I think a very short biography on the bag or bookmark would benefit.

Well written and easily comprehended!

The glass cases were beautiful and extremely well made.

This book, along with “Becoming Orthodox” and “Suprised by Christ” are the three most influential and clarifying books I read as a Protestant moving on my journey towards Orthodoxy. I recommend it to anyone who is wanting to better understand the history of the reformation and what it means for our faith/lives today. I loved listening to it on audio, but the detailed footnotes in the physical copy are incredibly helpful to dive deeper. I can’t recommend it enough!

I have two of the Orthodox study Bible to keep in different rooms in my house. I am using the morning and evening prayers in the back of the Bible. I love the art plates and the topical information on things Orthodox. My only Bible now.

Very good. As a new convert to Orthodoxy, I appreciated the author's journey.

Beautiful!

I couldn't have been more pleased with the cross box! In fact, I ordered three: one for myself and two for gifts. I've already given one as a gift and my friend loved it. It is beautiful, even the inside. I'm so glad I purchased these.

Very helpful

This was a great read. It gave me hope in these days of uncertainty. Saint Luke sets a good example of what Orthodox Christians should do in the face of persecution.

This book was not what it is described as. I like the short biographies and Tropar for each saint at the beginning of the chapters, but they are only a page or two. The chapters seem to be ramblings of the author's thoughts, many times not related to the chapter title or saint at all.

Good value but need nimble fingers to open the clasp.

Gorgeous in Person! Highly recommend

Beautifully written - theology and doctrine shine through a winsome personal journal. I bought the book to get to know Mary, and this fulfilled that important objective in a wonderfully human narrative.

This wonderful 9 chapter book with appendix by L. Joseph Letendre gives some wonderful insight on prayer. As he explains there is nothing easy about prayer and it is too easy in today’s world to become easily discouraged in trying to keep our rule of prayer. Using quotes from both Fr. Thomas Hopko, Fr. Alexander Schmemann, the Scripture and many others, the author give us tools and an understanding that can help us achieve prayer or to “come before God’s face with thanksgiving” He uses St. Theophan the Recluse words on prayer to set up his chapter headings:
So, when you pray:
Pray as you can
Pray attentively
Pray the Lord’s Prayer
Pray the Psalms
Pray the Gospels
Pray for others
Pray frequently
Pray faithfully.

I found the chapter on Pray as You Can especially insightful, since we all tend to think we do not pray as we should. Finally He includes an Appendix on What Monasticism Teaches Us. This again is another tool in our prayer toolbox.
The Audio book is well narrated by the Author himself and is just a little over 1 hr. It is perfect for the commute to work, or even to listen over a couple of lunch breaks. I would highly recommend this book to all Orthodox and non-Orthodox Christians who wish to improve their prayer life.
