Dr. Constantinou tackles this most daunting subject both efficiently and faithfully. She offers an in-depth study and analysis of what comprises the Orthodox phronema, drawing heavily from Scripture, Holy Tradition, and the writings of the Church Fathers, as well as examining the liturgical and personal spiritual practices which serve as a whole to make up this unique mindset. Further, much attention is paid towards comparing, contrasting, and analyzing the differences between the mindsets of Orthodox Christianity versus those inherent in Roman Catholicism and Protestantism, concentrating much on the historical developments and attitudes which served to shape Western Christianity. Attention is also paid towards the unique challenges in forming and nurturing an Orthodox mindset faced by modern cradle Orthodox in comparison to converts to the Faith.

This is not a book you merely read through once and then set aside. It beckons you to study its assertions further and to engage the teachings within. Infused with scholarly research, as well as various personal and practical reflections and accounts, this work serves as a treasury of wisdom on the subject of defining and forming an Orthodox mindset. I cannot recommend this work enough. Without a doubt, this should be required reading for not only Orthodox Christians, but also for anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the Mind of Christ and the phronema and spirit of Orthodox thinking and worship. I can personally attest that upon encountering the teachings here presented, my own knowledge and understanding was greatly deepened and challenged. A must read indeed!

Incredible book!

Wonderful. Simple and true. Helpful for prayer time in the morning to have a right heart.

A handsome little volume, but the translator prefers modern English. So you’re going to get, for example, “our father in heaven, hallowed be your name” instead of “our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.” It’s bound to bother some ears, particularly if your jurisdiction or your family use the more widespread and “old school” wording. Personally, I would prefer if Ancient Faith had stuck with the versions found in the Antiochian “Pocket Prayer Book.”

They were beautiful and my son-in-law was very happy to receive them. Very lovely addition to the tree!

To fight sin is tough. This little red book is how you start!

Not my favorite translation. Also I thought I order Robert Altman (not sure of last name) but I don’t see his name anywhere on the book, so I wonder if I received the right book.

I really appreciated last year's calendar, and this year's calendar looks just as beautiful. I wouldn't have expected that seeing a season-by-season view instead of a month-by-month view would change my perspective as much as it did. It fits right in with an Orthodox life and helps me keep the liturgical season at the forefront of my mind as I plan events, etc. I also love the beautiful design on major feast days. Beautifully designed in every way! It is a little extra-special to me because I got to visit Patmos a decade ago, but the memories have faded. This is a lovely way to dust them off. :)

This book is just beautiful, inside and out. Though it’s fictional, it surrounds the true story of the finding of the mysterious icon of St Phanourios in the early 1500s. The protagonist, an 11 year old boy named Marko, is dealing with inner turmoil that is introduced very early on in the story. This book is meant for young adults but it made this 35-year-old mother cry multiple times, from sadness, empathy, and joy. Marko lives through a siege, through terrible personal loss for which he feels responsible, and loses contact with his family. He finds himself in the company of three monks, and gradually begins to let go of his guilt, grief, and anger as they show him the love of Christ and His Church as they help him to find his family. Marko finds himself connecting on a deep level with the icon of St Phanourios, who is unknown but brings him comfort through his prayers.
The beautiful pencil illustrations add visual effect to the gripping story. The writing is smooth and easy to follow, but has a wide vocabulary.
Christine Rogers does not shy away from difficult and painful emotions found within family dynamics, and especially the inner struggles children can have with their relationship with God. I only wish my children were old enough to share this book with them! (Traumatic events make it for kids over 10, in my opinion.)
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I recommend it for teenagers and young adults!

Beauty First Films has done it again by creating another beautiful Orthodox calendar. I really enjoyed the layout of last year's calendar. I look forward to turning each page to see pictures of Patmos and read the spiritual tidbits of St. Amphilochios.

Switching from a calendar with standard months to a calendar laid out by the liturgical seasons proved to be beneficial to my routine this year. The calendar is a great resource for the feasts of the church, fasting days and the commemoration of the saints. The thoughtful and beautiful photographs displayed on each spread do not disappoint. I am excited to hang the 2021 calendar on the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord!

I bought a Beauty First calendar last year and again this year because it is nice to be able to plan out things like vacations and get togethers within view of the liturgical seasons. Gorgeous layout.

Drawing from both scripture and the church fathers, Fr. Evan Armitas' "Toolkit for Spiritual Growth" is a great introduction to the spiritual life.

Aptly named, this "toolkit" provides succinct and actionable steps to further develop a spiritual discipline. While the threefold pillars of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving may be better known to Orthodox Christians, this book offers advice in a framework accessible to all Christian readers.

With a section devoted to each of these three disciplines, Fr. Evan provides a breakdown of each's significance before expanding upon how we live them out. Particularly, inquirers to the faith may find this text helpful in bridging the "why" of Orthodoxy with the "how".

I would recommend this text to any Christian desiring to continually turn their life towards Christ.
