A Year in the Company of Angels is a light, engaging, and beautifully written book. Its humor and warmth are paired with a lively, expressive voice that brings scenes to life while offering genuine spiritual insight. Through elegant, observant prose, the author makes monastic life feel accessible rather than remote, infusing even simple moments with quiet contemplation.

What surprised me most was the author’s daily encounter with an icon of the Romanov family. His sincere reflections echoed some of my own thoughts and gently softened my skepticism about their canonization, leaving me curious to explore their story and sainthood more deeply.

Overall, this was a delightful and enriching read—approachable, intelligent, and warm. I would readily recommend it to anyone interested in spiritual memoir, monastic life, or a well-crafted literary journey.

Glad to have access to this information .

I was surprised at this book. It's short and very easy to get through. If you don't have a lot of time to read the chapters go by quickly so you can easily read one through in about 15-20 minutes. The author shares with us small short stories of his time as a pilgrim on the island with the monks and nuns. He tells the stories poetically and inserts anecdotes about his life and some of his inspirations.
Usually I enjoy much more strict narrative accounts, so I was a bit disappointed that this book wasn't of that nature, but I still really enjoyed it! And I still felt that I went with him to Spruce Island for a glimpse of it there. It made me want to find out more about the the place.

Absolutely beautiful! Really enjoy them for bookmarking my prayer book, etc...going to order more for gifts.

The Christmas cards from Ancient Faith are a great way to send greetings to friends, with a beautiful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.

This book completely, and utterly transports you. Anthony’s descriptions of Spruce Island bring this glorious place of pilgrimage alive in such a way that it becomes its own character in his story. He expertly weaves references to pop culture inside the stories he’s telling about the lessons he learned during his year living with the monks on Spruce Island. I found this book to be utterly profound. Alaska has definitely moved to the top of my pilgrimage list thanks to this book.

I absolutely loved this book! The author immerses the reader in the beauty of both Alaska and monastic life. His personal account and references to his favorite books, music and pop culture that he related to spirituality added to the story. Each person in the book enhanced the reader’s understanding and peacefulness of the monastic life. I highly recommend this book.

The disign is beautiful.wish the dove would stand out more from the background but overall its just beautiful.

Beautiful piece. Much more detail than I was expecting at a great price. The perfect addition to our school room.

An absolutely wonderful, moving book about a missionary priest, Fr. Nicola Yanney, who despite intense hardships
traveled to numerous states and territories to tend to growing flocks of Orthodox Christians. Fr. Yanney, may his memory be eternal and may he pray for us as our Orthodox faith grows in America, reminds me of St. Innocent (love him too). The other jewel that I have gleaned from this book is the mention and love of Bishop and Saint Raphael. Never knew much about him until I read this, and again, I came away with praise our Lord for his many, loving, gifted Saints. May Saint Raphael pray to God for us.

I like the illustrations but the stories ae not detailed enough for my primary church school class. So I tell the bible story with additions.

Beautiful and well worth the purchase!

Such a beautiful book. The poetry of the writing style is refreshing. Sucha lovely gift!

The author is transparent regarding the purpose of this book. It lists extensive research on various religions and their views on economics and the Common Good. From the beginning, Mr. Pahman states the goal is for the reader to have a better understanding of Orthodox Christian social thought. The expectations for each chapter are clearly stated. Each chapter easily flows into the next one. There are 5 parts to this book, each part contains a summary and discussion questions for the reader to consider. The author references information from previous chapters to support information related to the Orthodox Church’s view on social thought.
There is a broad review of biblical theology and church history. He addresses what the study of economics is, what is modern economics and uses a historical perspective to teach the reader how we can learn from history for the betterment of our fellow human beings. Current documents from the Orthodox Church are also critiqued and provide a look at where we are now and what the vision is for the future.
The target audience for this book are those in higher education and/or seminary. While my background is not in economics, I believe the author's extensive research and thought-provoking summary and discussion questions are useful to those in the target audience mentioned above.

Appreciate th me meaningful and succinct information of the topical series.

This book not only gave me a peek into the day to day on Spruce Island, but also brought the beauty in my own life to the forefront of my mind. These stories are shared alongside some of my favorite tales which adds to the magic both of St Michael’s Skete, and creation as a whole. Highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a book that exudes warmth and joy.

I had a hard time putting this book down and was always eager to get back to it. The short stories are fun, thoughtful, and remind us of what is True. There is so much depth in each tale and I plan on re-reading this book to soak it all in!

Great tote bag--large size and heavy material. The blue image is bright and the artwork is unique.

Our parish hands these prayer books to anyone who is visiting our church for the first time. In addition to providing them with our weekly bulletin and our monthly newsletter, this prayer book is a way that each visitor will take home something tangible highlighting the importance of prayer in the Orthodox Church.

I have this lovely cross in my care
