I loved this book! Well researched and engagingly written... I couldn't put it down! I loved the characters, the setting, and the saint! I think this would be a wonderful book for kids, especially older elementary/pre-teen. Although I'm an adult and enjoyed it too! I can't wait to read it to my kids!

Beautiful Iconic illustrations and well written easy to read dialogue makes this bible a delight for my 7 1/2 year old granddaughter to read and understand. Thank you so much.

Our Most Holy Mother, the Ever-Virgin Theotokos experienced many heartaches through out her life, yet her heart never hardened, nor did she carry any bitterness towards God or mankind. As a mother myself, it is so hard to comprehend the agony she endured. Yet I never considered that her heart remained soft towards God and others. Having my own heart recently broken by disappointment and become worried in a certain life circumstance, it remains soft by the prayers of my spiritual father.

This Akathist came to my hands in a most timely fashion. As I read, it soon became my prayer. Taken from low sorrow-filled words, my heart squeezed tight with fullness, beating ever more rapidly as the prayer helped me climb the heights of rejoicing. It is simply beautiful. I highly recommend it.

I am so impressed with this book, it is a wonderful way to feel the Liturgy in a heavenly way. Communion with all the saints and those in heaven with his every time we embrace our time in the Orthodox
Church with our spiritual fathers and our Priest.

The Scent of Holiness was given to me in exchange for a review. My husband and I decided to listen to it while we on a trip. While driving back the drive is usually never ending but while listening to this audiobook we felt as though our car was floating along and the drive was so easy.

This book was a great renewal for my husband and myself. The stories the author shared about the nuns and stories surrounding the people who visited were inspiring. I experienced goosebumps on more than one occasion.

Also, it has really encouraged my husband and I to plan a pilgrimage to a monastery as soon as we are able. We want our children to see the lives of monastics and we want to just be in the presence of such holy people. To experience a place full of prayer and innocence. To take time away from our busy lives and simplify it, even for a time.

I can not recommend this book enough to all my friends and I will be listening to it over and over again. Especially when I am needing a spiritual boost.

From cradle Orthodox to Catechumens to those recently Illumined, this is a foundational book to pick up and read. The book puts into context the ‘where does’ and the ‘why dos’ of the Orthodoxy Liturgy. It covers the spectrum from Church design to Clergy Vestments. In my spiritual journey I have gone from the unchurched but searching. Searching from the Buddhists to the spiritualist. I landed first in a Charismatic church, which I stayed for several years. Then I went through exploring several Protestant denominations and even 2 liturgical churches. I began to realize their was similarities between many of Protestant, Catholic and evangelical churches. Same order of worship, same theology on the Trinity. It wasn’t till I was guided to the Orthodox Church that I realized where it all came from. ‘Orthodox Worship’ is an easy read and informative on every page. It goes on a logical line of first explaining the basics of church buildings and furniture and goes on to the evaluation of the Liturgy. The authors show how the 2 parts of the Liturgy, Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of Communion came together on Sunday. It truly describes the continuity from Synagogue to our Orthodox churches today.

Great gift to new and old Orthodox brothers and sisters. Great book for personal study and reference.

Curiosity drove me to select this book. I have no connection to Judaism or any real conversion story, but the topic itself sounded crazy enough to be interesting'an Orthodox Jew converting to Orthodoxy and becoming a priest? Well, I wanted to see how that could possibly happen.

When I first started listening to this book (through Audible), I started to regret my choice. The introduction talked about how this book would be wonderful for anyone of the Jewish faith considering Orthodoxy or wishing to understand more about the connection between the Jewish faith and Orthodoxy. That was absolutely not me and I began to worry that my curiosity had driven me astray (as it has done before, from time to time). But, I continued reading and, just like the title 'Surprised by Christ,' this book surprised me by how fascinating and compelling the story as well as how, convert or not, Christ has likewise surprised me in my life and continues to do so in little things every day.

The author evocatively leads us through his life, painting a picture of his childhood, his curiosity about faith, and ultimately the way all of his experiences led him to the priesthood. What struck me most was how the book made me realize how many little 'conversion' events of my own I had had throughout my life'those little moments in life that led me to a deeper faith, a more profound understanding, and a reminder to keep searching. Life never takes you where you think it will, whether it is from Judaism to Orthodoxy, or from a childish understanding of faith to something more, to be more childlike rather than childish. This author and this book surprised me in the best sort of way.
