Trying to create a replica SOCOM M4 from the 2008 time-frame can be extremely difficult as a lot of the components are out of production (i.e. M68). Thanks to Charlie's CC, getting help in the form of the correct information and being able to buy new parts made to simulate out-of-production items not only makes the project more fun, but doable. And, at really good prices.

Daniel Defense Bolt-up RIS-II barrel nut wrench - heavy duty
This wrench is advertised as a 'heavy duty' version of the notoriously weak DD barrel nut wrench. However this tool is still made with extremely weak pot aluminum. It bent under a very light application of pressure. Had to repress the wrench closed with a vice multiple times to continue installation.

Wow. This wrench is so much improved over the standard wrench, we are surprised to hear that. There is a trick. We call it "closing the C" You always have to move the wrench so you are tightening up the span, and not the other way, where you are opening the span. We use this in our shop, and the older wrench was good for 20 installs if you were real careful. We have used the same wrenches, and I think they are steel, hundreds of times, and no issues.
