Kizer Kane (V4467A2)
Kizer Kane
I purchased my first Kizer knife a few weeks ago, and my initial impression was so good I decided I wanted to add a couple more so I could get a really good feel for the quality of these knives.
The Kizer Kane was one of my choices based on the somewhat similar design and size to the Fallkniven PXL micarta, a knife I have owned and used for 10 plus years.
This knife will be used along with others as an every day carry knife, so in time I will know if it lives up to my initial impression.
- The Kizer Kane is a large knife, approx 8.5 cm blade length, 21.5 cm overall open length, and 12.5 cm closed. The knife weighs in at 169 grams. a weight that has a quality, confident feel in the hand, without being overly heavy for a large knife.
- Blade is VG10 steel, a steel I am very familiar with, and like a lot. Good corrosion resistance, sharpens relatively easily, takes a razor sharp edge, and edge retention is good. I can't find specs on Kizer heat treat hardness for their blades, but VG10 is typically hardened between 58-62HRC. Blade is hollow ground which should provide good slicing performance from an otherwise relatively thick strong blade.
- Not certain what the practical concept of the "harpoon" style blade is. Style wise it looks kind of cool, and provides a "stop" for your thumb, however some users may find it limits thumb placement on the spine when you want to apply more pressure on the blade. I have fairly large hands, and it fits me nicely.
- This is my first flipper style knife, and I'm still getting used to this style of blade deployment, the blade opens very smoothly on the ball bearing pivot with a minor wrist motion after initially deploying the blade with the flipper. The blade locks up solidly on the liner lock, with no up or down blade play. There is a small amount of side to side movement on the blade, but this is a large knife, and there is a fair amount of leverage acting on the pivot. Nothing I'm initially concerned about. The blade is centered nicely between the liners when closed.
- Pocket clip is strong and comes mounted for tip up, right hand carry. The liners are tapped to allow the clip to be mounted for tip up, left hand carry. There is no option to change to tip down carry.
- Overall fit and finish is very good. You can feel the G10 liners a bit where they transition at the bolsters, but overall there are no unsightly gaps, blemishes, or misalignment's on this knife.
SUMMARY: A solid knife with a quality feel and appearance. Manufactured from high end materials, with an above average quality blade steel.
This knife is a true bargain at this price point. If you're considering a large folder purchase, this knife deserves your full consideration.

CRKT Cuatro (7090)
When I first grabbed this knife out the box I was like, "man, this thing feels cheap...." and then I flipped it open, and it blew my mind. I can't stop playing with this thing. It's like an "adult" fidget toy. That bearing gimmick isn't much of a gimmick, it's so friggin' slick. Gotta admit, not the sharpest knife I've ever had right out the box, but I gotta give this a 5 star for entertainment value alone. I wanna buy another one just to have for when I wear this one out...

Kizer Sliver Black (Ki4419A4)
First impression, out of box review.
I purchased this knife a couple weeks ago, it is my first Kizer knife. I own, or have owned many upper end knives from various established manufactures, and most, if not all, featured premium steels and manufacture.
Initially I was leery of Kizer's claims of being a high end knife, featuring premium steels made in China, but my first impression is very positive.
- The Sliver appears to be of quality manufacture, the liners and textured aluminum scales combine to provide a solid handle with good grip. Even though the knife is slim, it fits well in my larger hands.
- The CPM-S35VN blade sharpened razor sharp. It sharpened easily, with the amount of abrasion resistance I would expect from this steel, i.e takes a bit of extra effort. (I belt sharpen and finish on a leather strop).
- The thumb studs are a good size and provide good thumb contact, the blade deploys smoothly and has no side play on lock up. When closed, the blade is nicely centered between the liners
- The liner lock locks up solid.
Summary: This knife will be joining my EDC rotation. First impression is very favorable. Gave it four stars only because I haven't had a chance to put it through its paces in the real world.

House of Knives 40th Anniversary Paring Knife 4" Red (8100-RD-40)
I'm giving this knife a five star review based on over quality at the price point. The knife features European X46 Cr13 steel (420C North American equivalent) which is a respectable knife steel that resists corrosion well and sharpens easily.
The knife comes sharp out of the package, but I always put my own edge on my knives. The knife sharpened easily to a razor sharp edge.
I have reasonable expectations of edge holding ability of this steel, meaning, used for its intended purpose as a kitchen paring knife for prepping fruits, vegetables, and meats it should hold a good usable edge for quite some time. If you try cutting through bone, or slice up cardboard boxes with it, frequent sharpening will be needed.
SUMMARY: I purchased this knife at an additional discount when purchased along with another knife, at the price I paid, this knife is an absolute steal! At regular price, with decent blade steel, it is an outstanding value. Buy one (or two) before they are gone!

Marzitelli Bone Hunter (000064)
Marzitelli Bone Hunter. Very nice knife; has the finish and detail of a custom knife, at a great price. Perfect size for EDC, and blade shape is very useful. For larger hands, this would be a 3-finger grip, but small/medium hands will get a good full grip. Maker no longer ships to U.S. customers, so was very happy to find one of his knives here.

Victorinox Swiss Classic 2 1/2" Turning Black Shaping Knife (6.7503)
I have had one of these knives for over 30 years (and it is still good, except handle being worn out). It is my favourite knife to use for vegetables, fruits etc. I tried in many stores to find one just like it, but to no avail. When I noticed the company name on the blade of the one I have, I decided to look on your web site to see if I could find this particular style, and low and behold I did. I was very happy to know I could order it on-line. It is my favourite tool in the kitchen. I am oh so happy that I was able to find it and ordered two just in case it is not available in the future.
