Trish, if there are a lot of particulates in your water, which in turn blocks the outside of the cartridge, this then causes pressure loss & the cartridge needs to be scrubbed clean again. If there is no particles in the water the cartridge will not require cleaning. Hello Paul, Thanks for letting us know. Paul, the slower we filter the water the better water quality we will have. But we do need a reasonable flow rate i agree. If the flow rate has slowed after using the cartridge one of the possible reasons why the flow rate diminishes or slows down is the ceramic cartridge may have blocked up prematurely. This is due to the quality of the water. If there's a high particulate content in the water, this tends to block up the pores of the ceramic cartridge. What you can do is clean the surface of the ceramic cartridge using a scouring pad. Scrub the cartridge with the scouring pad under running tap water. However, sometimes there are instances that this would not be enough. What you can do is use a piece of 100 grit sandpaper and scrub the surface of the cartridge instead.
