They need to make a proper barrel band for octagon barrels if they're going to charge that much. Quality stuff just useless to me.

You are correct that it does not fit octagon models as stated on the webpage "DOES NOT FIT: Octagon barrel models (barrel band too tight)." If you can't use it, please feel free to ship it back to us for a full refund.

When I made my first order with RPP, I ordered a 0.060 aperture with the rear sight assembly and it had some machining burrs on the inside rear part of the hole. Thinking it was a one time issue, I ordered a second 0.060 aperture when making a second order from RPP. That aperture had the same issue. I would not recommend.

Comparing the new Marlin SBL and the Trapper straight from the factory using my hand loads today and no brake on either here is what I found.
SBL 19.5” barrel avg FPS was 1,525.6
Trapper 16.10” barrel avg FPS was 1,314.23 or 211.37 FPS slower
This was my load in both:
- 405-grain coated cast SBS bullet
- 33.5 grains of Buffalo Rifle - Shooters World powder
- Starline 45-70 brass
- Winchester Large Rifle primers
Not a heavy load but knocking the steel all over the place.
When I installed the Ranger Point Precision “Comet Muzzle Brake” on the Trapper, it added another inch to the over all barrel length and closed the gap to only 20 FPS slower on average than the SBL.
Probably the biggest take away from all of it was that by adding the muzzle brake on either rifle substantially reduced the felt recoil and the muzzle jump. It helped to tame the Hornady 325-grain FTX round traveling at 1,808 FPS from the trapper.
All in all a very satisfying day at the range.
