I thought that the teaching style was very accommodating for everyone. The presenters were very clear with how the questions were answered and answered any questions when needed. I also liked the fact that they gave one on one attention when needed and we're very friendly. Through this course I leant that the style of the questions were quite different and a lot of explaining could be done to answer them.

At the step taster day I not only got to meet other people my age who are interested in studying maths but also got a better idea of how STEP works. The class was smaller than I expected allowing the teachers to get round to everyone individually when they needed help. We were all given our own booklets and mini whiteboards which was helpful when we wanted to write things down or use space for workings. I especially like the red yellow green cards that were given to each participant so that the teachers could track our progress. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a first insight into taking STEP.

The experience was really helpful and gave me a lot of insight into how to attempt a step question. The class size was enough so that it didn't feel too overwhelming. It is a great course for anyone interested in doing step and I would recommend it to anyone doing further maths for a level.

It has been a good day, working with other students makes attacking questions much better as well as the hands on approach to each of them. I think the teacher-student ratio is good. I have not learnt much but I have taken away a new mindset when it comes to answering maths questions. Everyone is really friendly and it has been a pleasant experience.

I got 4 A*s and a 1 in STEP 3 and a 2 in STEP 2, but still got my Cambridge place because I was only a few marks off a 1. The courses really really helped me and I definitely wouldn’t have done as well without them – I’ve been recommending the courses to people I know doing STEP exams :)... The absolute best part of this course was that it gave me confidence in my own ability, which doing questions alone at home never did. The teachers were friendly and supportive and hinted at how to approach a problem, allowing us to figure it out for ourselves rather than simply giving us answers. The course also helped me to understand the best ways to approach STEP questions, breaking down each question into smaller, more manageable problems. Another major benefit was being in an environment which allowed us to discuss problems with other STEP students and learn from each other’s ideas-something that wasn’t available to me at home.

I enjoyed working in a group and going through the questions in detail! I thought the presenters were very helpful and clear, and they have lots of 1 to 1 help. I thought working in a group was helpful and liked the idea of the white boards! I thought the coloured cards were an especially good idea! And the booklets were very neat and helpful! The green comments were especially good! I learnt how to approach step III questions, I learnt how to do simple differential equations, I also gained some confidence! I would reccomend the course because it gives you a chance to ask any questions and to learn approaches and ways to tackle questions! The student to teacher ratio was also very good! And the teachers were very good!

The friendly and knowledgeable staff at the STEP maths courses provide elegant worked through solutions by various methods and provide very useful help on questions when necessary. They break down questions so that they are easier to tackle and provide starter questions to get the students looking for the right methods to tackle a problem. I have learnt several mathematical techniques to help tackle the questions on the paper and have improved bits of my understanding of mathematical concepts that I was already familiar with as well. It has also been nice to meet and work with fellow mathematicians who will most likely be attending similar universities to me. This is particularly encouraging because you get the chance to meet people who are going to have to sit the same difficult exam as you.

It was great to work with other mathematicians on high level maths problems and to also see different approaches to problems. The tutors are all really helpful and approachablec, which makes such a difference. Working on hard questions with people able to give hints and suggestions is really useful, as you know someone will be able to explain it if you don't understand it. The preparatory questions before tackling questions are also useful as they get you in "the zone".

Working with other students on maths problems is not something that everyone can experience at school – being able to discuss complex ideas and get hints and different approaches from each other is invaluable preparation for not just STEP, but for one's mathematical ability in general. The Easter STEP course was excellent and definitely the most helpful till date. It was great to be able to use the knowledge we had only just learnt at school to tackle the STEP 3 questions. I really enjoyed the february half term step course. It was a great opportunity to start preparing for step in a friendly environment with the chance of asking for help whenever needed. The low student-teacher ratio meant that 1-1 help was often provided and this helped clarify many ideas. Presenters were clear and well prepared, taking us through questions quickly and allowing us to cover a lot of ground in the three days. Grouping questions by topic really helped me to see patterns across different STEP questions, and helped me to spot common tricks. Good student to teacher ratio (6:1) allows teachers to pay close attention to the needs of each individual student.
