There was a good sized class of students eager to learn, with a good teacher to student ratio - whenever help was needed it was available. The teachers encouraged us to think for ourselves and to persevere even when the maths was difficult, which helped to challenge ourselves learn new things. The booklets full of the questions printed for us was useful and I will be sure to complete the rest of the questions in my own time at home. The feedback system to the teacher through the use of coloured cards was useful as it allowed the teacher to constantly check that everybody understood what was happening and they could assist anyone who wasn't sure. The use of whiteboards to work things out in partners and to hold up our solutions was good as it allowed everyone the opportunity to attempt questions and learn. It was a great opportunity to make new friends and receive help and good tuition from helpful teachers. I had fun stretching myself and learning new maths over the course! I would love to be part of another course in the future.

I found the way that we were immediately given questions to try and answer very inviting at the start of the course, and the 1 to 1 teaching if you ever had trouble ensured that everyone was able to understand the material. I also enjoyed how the teaching was fast paced and the focus was on actually trying the questions and learning to engage with them in a style slightly different to normal maths exams.

The step course was really helpful for preparation - I learned loads of new methods and tricks I had no idea about. The group work made me work with other people - helping me see other, more original approaches I wouldn't have considered otherwise. I would definitely recommend doing this course.

The 3 day summer course was extremely uselful to me as I now not only understand the format of STEP papers, but I also met lots of people who are interested in the same things. The course went through many different kinds of questions where the presenters clearly explained how to layout answers aswell as the method behind them. This kind of support for step papers is not available at my school so this was extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this course. I learnt a lot about how to answer STEP questions and the process of thinking and how to avoid pitfalls. The presenters were friendly and gave 1on1 attention whenever we needed help, meaning we could maximise how much we got from this course. Working in pairs and groups was also very useful (as well as regularly switching partners) as it helped to bounce ideas off each other. Overall an excellent course that I would definitely recommend!

Maths made easy and clear to understand. And when you didn't the staff helped effectievly. Learned new thing about inequalities you would not normally learn in school. White boards made it easy for people on desk to work in team and take part in the class. I would recommend you to anyone who would consider doing any math demanding subjects in uni. The helpers were very friendly and helpful and would always ensure that I understood everything as the course progressed. I found the group work helpful in order to discuss ideas with the other students before going through the solution with the teacher on the board. The mini whiteboards also allowed the helpers to check that we understood the concepts as we went along. The lesson today was focused on sketching graphs and I now feel more confident with the STEP questions on this topic. I learnt different approaches to questions that I would not have been able to consider without this course. I would definitely recommend the course to anyone who is considering STEP because it gave a good insight into the style of questions asked in STEP. It was good to explain my ideas to others and work in groups to gain alternative ways of thinking and approaching problems.
