This course was really useful and gave me extra practice for answering PAT questions which I maybe wouldn't be able to do on my own at home. The high teacher to student ratio meant that there was a lot of help around if you got stuck on a question. Group work also helped with this since you could gain another view on how to answer a question. The course also really helped me to gain a better understanding on topics which I hadn't yet been taught at school and wouldn't have been able to teach myself.

All of the tutors were very helpful and were willing to assist you if you were stuck. The material covered was very broad and I particularly liked having the booklet to work through and jot down answers and notes. The extra question was a great additions were a nice addition. I found the STEP maths MAT short question day very useful. The day was arranged in a way that meant you could work with others, aiding understanding. I found the mini whiteboard system particularly helpful, as it was an effective way to inform the teacher on wether I was struggling without feeling embarrassed. Furthermore I found working in groups helpful as it was interesting to hear the methods of other people. I would recommend it to anybody thinking of taking the MAT. I found the the student teacher ratio excellent and there was always somebody there to help me If I needed it.

The course introduced me to techniques which will help when doing questions and also increased my confidence when solving the questions.When I attended my first STEP Maths course, I had begun tackling STEP questions but I had had no guidance beyond the somewhat limited online resources. The course taught me how to formally lay out my argument as well as teaching me various tricks to arrive at an answer quicker. So the course, for me at least, turned my ability to solve a problem and understand the principles into being able to produce a well written answer which will gain significantly more marks in a STEP exam. The courses I attended also focused on specific areas such as trig and working with graphs, which gave me more confidence on these specific types of questions. I ended up getting 1SS in my STEP Papers and I will be studying maths at Clare College Cambridge next year.

I enjoyed tackling the problems and the teachers were really helpful when they came to help us individually. I liked that we moved placed because meeting more people with different ideas was a good experience. I learned how to draw new functions (I had never seen quartic functions) and I improved my application of A level knowledge to harder questions. I would recommend this course to friends because of the approachable and helpful teaching (both to the class and individually), the good structure and the balance between teaching new techniques and individual or group attempts at questions.

I particularly liked how there are breaks between questions. I also loved the fact that one of the teachers encouraged me to ask/put up a yellow card whenever things aren't going as smooth. At one point though, I got really stuck on a stats question. Although a teacher did explain the methods to me, I still didn't really understand it. Maybe start asking more basic questions to start with first...? 1 more teacher in the class would be great. I've learnt a variety of ways to prove a statement which I think was the most useful thing.
