Great organisation and lovely people but as it is in UK pounds converting to Austrakian makes it expensive especially on a pension and exchange rate terrible

The guiding ect. was really good, the guid ist friendly and everything was fine!

Zanzibar is fantastic and the volunteer in the school touching, richer, deeper and filled with lessons that no book could ever teach.
But the hostel was awful, unfortunately my ticket plane wasn’t flexy but some people left the programme before the time to come back home.
I shared the room and, more important, the bathroom, always dirty, with people got sick, who vomited and with diarrhoea maybe for the food, who spent some days in the hospital, I didn’t feel safe, in fact I had my meals outside even if I had payed for them.
In the kitchen there were rats and when I complained about this they minimized the danger and said me that maybe it was the first time. In my mattress there were bugs, so in the morning my body showed some stings and I was obliged to use a strong repellent also to sleep and in the night there was the noise of woodworms in the bed. In the room there wasn’t the space for 6 people and their stuff, but everything on the floor and without a locker with a padlock for money and document.
Moreover, I am a teacher in my country and to see guys in the class that all the time use the mobile or listen to audio message is for me not instructive, they looked like to be obliged to stay there and not a choice, I think that a serious volunteer project must have a few basic rules and a programme to accept,instead for me it was like a touristic trap just for money, so next time I will contact the school by myself and I will stay in a small hotel.

Booking was easy and if I needed assistance, someone always helped.

I was constantly checked up on during my application and booking process. That’s what made me feel extra secure I wanted to have my first volunteer experience with Volunteer World.

Everything was great. Had to reschedule my original trip dates to December 2025 from December 2024 due to work conflicts. Jan made the rescheduling process easy.
