Well organised event. Different distances available (10k, half and marathon) but get unique medal and t for each. This alao added to support in the route. Prefer a round route not 2 laps and itchen bridge at 24 miles is a challenge but overall I loved it.

Enjoyable event, only a couple of bugs:

Water: really difficult to drink with ***** top - sports tops would have been infinitely better!
People running with headphones: completely oblivious to outsiders - they should be banned like in most races
Marathon runners overtaking half-runners were tricky at times - they should be in separate lanes

P.S I hate the itchen bridge

An extremely well organised event which provided ample challenge and opportunity for PB alongside some stunning views.

Enjoyed the half marathon but this was my 3rd year and didn't like the reverse course with this Bridge towards the end. Also the final drinks station - should have been earlier - I heard many people asking when we were getting water and we had to wait till a mile from the end - should have been before Itchen Bridge. Otherwise medals, t-shirt all good. There was a problem with my results not recording (didn't show me finishing) and I had to come back (only realised on way home) and get it sorted out

Great run, really well organised and marshalled. Having the 3 different distances setting of at different times worked a treat. Now just flatten the Itchen Bridge a bit and it will be perfect! ????

Crowds were great- especially the cubs, scouts, beavers with their power up signs!
Starting at 1000 is a great time for a 1/2!
Bridges were a complete and utter *****!
Water stations a plenty (but whole bottles of lidded water...really?!)
Shame a lot of us came it at the same time as the 10kers!!)
Perhaps hand out **** with ***** in it and don't bother with the bag full of flyers... poor tress!

Great event, well organised, well marshalled and well supported, on a day when marathon attentions were probably elsewhere you did Southampton proud and did the running community proud, it will only get bigger

Overall I actually enjoyed the 2017 ABP Southampton HALF marathon, however as I vetran of mass event running I have a few pointers that may help your future event.

- There were no tannoy speakers at 1/2 marathon start line.
- Route twisted and turned too much and to make up the miles went up and down local streets with cars either side of the road
- Too narrow paths through Southampton Common
- Not enough water stations throughout the course
- Stewards shouting "keep left" on right hand turns, with no fast runners coming through.
- Finish line was too tight and turned into a scrum - not sure a pintmof **** on a hot day was sensible.
- Medals would be better given to the finisher, not given still in bags!
- Baggage collection was chaotic, maybe not enough room, but the bag numbers were definitely much too small!

I hope this helps.

I did the 10k last year, 2016, and again this year. I enjoyed them both, thought everything was very well organised again this year, perhaps even better than last year, and the feelgood factor with the crowds and the good weather was tremendous, but I did think it a shame this year's 10k course didn't go through St Mary's stadium.

This race was my 12th Half Marathon and I would encourage you to sign up for this one, it’s definitely one I would run again. The organization was fantastic; a city center start at 10am with access to coffee and clean toilets (a view shared by others, as I overheard while waiting in line, “Toilets are the most important thing to runners!”). You may not consider Southampton one of the most exotic places you can run but the city doesn’t disappoint. Along with a varied, interesting course, they brought sunshine, an abundance of super-friendly marshals and cheering charity supporters, as well as a never-ending supply of locals with motivational posters, high-fiving kids and a ton of jelly babies. I lost count of the number of people I’ve never met before who stood by the side of the road yelling my name and telling me how great I was doing. Trust me, it really helps, especially as Southampton seems to have a lot of hills. I distinctly remember Church Lane and the euphoric feeling I got when I glanced at my Garmin and discovered I’d managed to maintain a decent pace even at the top. But nothing can prepare you for Itchen Bridge, around mile 11. Well played, Southampton, well played. I ran it, up and down both sides, although the first side never seemed to stop going up. But the view, the one thing you should focus on to stop yourself losing your mind, is spectacular. In fact, the whole course has something to keep your mind off the miles, although watch out for the dance troupe on the corner of one of those hills because if, like me, you get caught up in the excitement of it all you’ll miss that water stop! And it’s hard to describe the peacefulness of runners quietly enjoying the moments running through St Mary’s Stadium with just the stewards for company, one of those experiences that, as runners, we’re privy to. So why, with the hills, would I recommend this race? Because despite the hills, you can get a Personal Best time. Yes, honestly, I did. I started with two pacers in bright orange t-shirts in my sights, running at a pace that was a little more challenging than I’m used to. And I ran a quicker race than I’ve ever run, despite that bridge! And the PB and the medal will stay with me far longer than those tight and aching quads!

I thoroughly enjoyed the race once again (this was my second time). I thought it was ran extremely well and the support from everyone was exceptional. The mile markers on most of the mile points were excellent and really pushed me through. I will be entering the full marathon next year.

Brilliant experience, one of the best marathons I have taken part in, I began entering the half marathon but the team was really helpful through different social media to help me upgrade to the marathon! If you are reading this thank you! I can't wait for next year

Everything was great except the route. I am local and believe that there are many other more appropriate routes.

A good course but was a little hilly in places. Atmosphere was good in places, at prime points of the race I.e. finish, start, half and at various places. It got a little quiet within the residential sections and I lost GPS signal within the park briefly. Marshalls were good and signage was good. This has a potential PB in it but I picked up a slight injury at mile 18 so limped home. Will definitely look to do again as I have a PB to beat!!

A great race in a great city. This event has come so far in such a short time and can only get better. I'm sure it won't be long before it Eclipses the Great South Run as the number one running event on the South Coast

Absolutely fantastic event ran Full Marathon 2 laps not a problem . Helped knowing second lap where the tough uphill sections would end and nice downhills round corner also my family could support me at half way point a real boost and at finish line. Ran half year before this years revised reverse route was better. Great support around whole course from all mile makers and spectators . Well done in bringing a Marathon to Southampton run it in 2018 everyone.
