I had an amazing day and thoroughly enjoyed my experience at not only my first Southampton marathon, but my first ever marathon! My only disappointment (and very minor at that) were the people smoking at the side of the road as runners were coming through, I found it hard to breathe at points but I know this is going to be something that is hard to control. Thank you very much for this event! I shall be coming again next year!!

Who needs London when we have this amazing event on our doorstep! Just signed up for my 4th Southampton half in a row in April 2018. Brilliant support the whole way, and after, we stood and supported the marathon runners for another 3 hours! See you all next year!

A very enjoyable race which was my first time of running in this event. Very well organised with plenty of car parking space near by. My only drawback was after finishing the race, it was a tight squeeze to get out of the medal giving area to meet family down the other end. It was very crowded and had to squeeze by others. At the end of the race t-shirts were handed out (which is great) but to my dismay there were only xlarge ones left. I still quite happily accepted this as it is a nice keepsake no matter what the size, but the two women in front of me were quite disgusted at this and made it quite clear to the poor woman handing them out that this was how they felt. Surely in this day and age maybe a few more medium/large shirts would be better? Anyway great day out and look forward to doing it again next year.

What an amazing day!! Thanks for making it brilliant. Only suggestion would be to change the starting times for the races so that we don't have excess amounts of people all crossing the bridge at the same time. Maybe change it back to the original route... Bridge at the beginning is better and make signage higher at the 10k / marathon split...

Having run half marathon, 10k then 10k in the previous years I have to say the organisation from an athletes point of view is improving. With a few points that need sorting out for next year my main gripe is with the position of the water station on the 10k route which was positioned after the Itchen Bridge and not before it as shown on the map which was published in the Echo on Saturday this was at almost 8k!! It cant have been much good for the half marathon either. Many of my fellow runners at Totton Running Club who ran the Half Marathon described the Itchen Bridge as 'carnage' trying to weave through the slower 10k runners. Perhaps some thought needs to be given to either start times or lanes on the bridge. But apart from that keep up the good work. Simon Mason

I have done lots of your events but was really disappointed by this one. As a half Marathon runner (I won the over 50 mens category last year) I think the course was much better last year and the timings and separations of the races were better. This year I hit the Itchen Bridge to find it heaving with very slow runners: most of whom were 10k runners, running out of steam. It was almost dangerous trying to run through and around people, made worse by similar numbers doubling back along the bridge. This really needs a rethink. Thank you for listening!

I'm running the half marathon and I felt that the course is a bit boring. Thus, I couldn't image what if I run the full marathon. It might be a better idea to lengthen the course for the full marathon. However, the crowds are really nice! Cheering for everyone!

The 1:55 guys were brill. I caught up with them around 7 miles or so and they spurred me and a whole load of others on with their banter! I really used my arms over Itchen Bridge as much as I could like they said. Sadly, I didn't have their sprint finish but did a 1/2 min pb compared to last yr. However, I was terribly naughty and drank wine with my pasta the night before. I will not do that next year I promise- I'll just make sure I drink red wine instead and avoid the pasta- weighed me down! Thanks for everything and my sis would have been giggling at me from above- I raced down to London last year to tell her how I'd got on but sadly cancer took her from us in July.

Is there any possibility that I could acquire a marathon finishers tee shirt in a size Large if you have any leftover? I selected a medium and it is a little on the small size. I am so pleased with my time and the event that I want to wear the tee shirt on a regular basis. If you are able to supply a size large or advise how I might be able to it would be much appreciated.

Very well organised race. Course was good however I had not run it before and was told about the bridge but didn't realise how challenging it would be . At 11 miles it was not nice !! Personally would have preferred it at the beginning when on fresher legs .

The half marathon event would benefit from much better streaming at the start. Too many people were in the wrong starting area so the first three miles were a series of moving roadblocks on narrow technical streets which caused a frustrating start and threw runners of starting at the pace they wanted to. You could solve this by only letting runners join the startling from the rear, not from the startling end.
