Excellent !!

Using this book for an online Bible study coming up. The author's own translations embedded in the text are aimed at an understanding of the original Greek and also make it convenient since you don't need to flip between the book and a separate Bible. Lots of interesting insights and asides. I've used other books in the series and have found them helpful. They are done from an Orthodox perspective which means you will learn about foundational matters that differ in many places from what Western Christianity has come to be'something I find refreshing and helpful.

"Get busy living or get busy dying." Although this quote is from a movie, it could easily apply to many orthodox parishes in our country. One can either embrace the fact that we all need help understanding and reclaiming the great commission, or we can sit back and watch our parishes continue to die away. This should be required reading for every graduating seminarian and every parish council in the country. It is steeped in Holy Tradition, sound theology and practical hands-on experience of 20 years. I highly recommend it. It is well written and very useful. Thank you Fr. Evan for providing a much needed resource to those of us who love our faith and don't want to see the church dwindle away.

Beautiful!!

A terrific way to celebrate the Orthodox advent with children of all ages. I take turns reading the daily adventures with my 9 and 10 year old children, and they take turns hanging the ornaments along a string we set across a book case. The artwork is beautiful and respectful. The stories and insights are a wonderful way to walk through the Old Testament up to the birth of Christ. We are so happy with this purchase.

Wow, was the color off. Way off. The bright red on the cards I received was disconcerting and, frankly, ugly. I kept them and sent them out, because it was too late to do anything. But what I received is not what was pictured--even here in the review you sent.

And while we're at it, how 'bout cards with more angels for the nativity and messages about peace. What I love about the Orthodox liturgy is the many calls for peace. Very necessary today, and, well, I guess, always.

Strickland begins by discussing three important figures: Wagner, Nietzsche, and Dostoevsky. I was particularly excited to read about Dostoevsky because his work was the subject of my undergrad thesis. From there, Strickland moves forward, revealing the influence of nihilism in art, music, philosophy, and politics in various parts of Christendom.

I loved this book. Existentialism and Dostoevsky have always been of particular interest to me, so it was great to read about them from an Orthodox perspective. I also enjoyed seeing how everything came together to show how we got to where we are now. It impressed me that Strickland was able to work in the war in Ukraine, as well. I thought the potentially more controversial topics towards the end of the book were handled with a good amount of neutrality, which I appreciated.

I did feel that some things were a bit harder to understand because I hadn't read the first three books in the series. But that's only to be expected. And I did wish that more time could have been spent on some topics. The book is already almost 400 pages long, though!

I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants an intellectually challenging read and is interested in a road map to understanding the last 100 years of history and culture.

A beautiful book about the basic Orthodox Traditions

I love this set!

Father Evan sums things up in a way that is clear while outlining what people need to hear, not what is easy. Really recommend this book to anyone who is looking to improve their relationship with Christ and those around them.

This book really expressed and examined a lot of what I felt in a time of grief and what I saw in my friends and family when they were grieving.

Beautiful!!!

Very inspiring!

I am enjoying reading the book. I love his writings. Thank you for the excellent customer service!

Excellent. I am learning a lot about people like Wagner and Nietzsche who had been mostly names. And about secular humanism which is vilified by conservatives. I am a member of the “Beat Generation” and often heard some of my friends talk about the philosophy they heard on their pilgrimages to San Francisco. “I don’t know, I don’t care and it doesn’t make any difference anyway.” And why Time magazine featured a cover with “God is Dead.” I see now that this is all nihilism. The author of this book makes it all easy to understand. I have enjoyed the previous books, too. I am halfway through and am looking forward to the ret of the book.

It was a great concluding volume to the series, well written and thoughtful.

Very well-pleased with the calendar.

Jesus has a great hair cut.

I'm a recent convert and this little prayer book is perfect for my needs!

I haven't read it yet. I am reading volume 3 of this set now but will start vol. 4 as soon as possible. Volumes 1,2,3 have been very interesting and I have read them all very slowly so as not to miss anything. I am looking forward to vol. 4.
