Love Comes Down (board book)
As a mother of a busy toddler, I’m constantly looking for books that not only can hold my child’s attention (there are very few) but also have an empowering/wholesome/enriching message to them. As soon as this book was in my child’s hands, she was enraptured. She listened to the words, drank in the illustrations and sat quietly absolutely absorbed in this book. I really like the song at the end and the ability to hear the author sing it herself was really special and helpful. I also appreciate the reminder that even little things like snow and sunshine are examples of Gods love for us. I love the illustrations which are tasteful, realistic and inclusive. Clearly my daughter did as well as she could not take her eyes off of them as she kept turning the pages back and forth. Highly recommend!

The Ancient Faith Psalter, deluxe edition
I really had high hopes for this book. It seemed that it would be a perfect companion to the Ancient Faith Prayer Book, which is excellent! But the quality is not the same as the Prayer Book. The cover is beautiful, but the paper seems to be more of a paperback quality than the high quality paper used in the prayer book. Also the binding doesn't seem to be as neatly constructed (possibly due to the cheaper paper). My last qualm with this book is that for psalms which appear in both the ancient faith prayer book and the psalter, the translations do not match. I much prefer the translations which are in the ancient faith prayer book.
Ultimately I will keep and use this psalter, but I think I could have saved some money and just gotten the cheaper version.

Love Comes Down (board book)
I love when childrens books keep the message simple, yet still make sure to include enough variety that children are able to find a way to connect personally to the book. This one does an amazing job of that! The words and pictures are so beautifully simple yet have so much depth and connection to real experiences. I especially love how they use the love that a child gives toward an animal to illustrate the message on many of the pages. The inclusive images as well as variety of activies expressed will give all children a chance to see themselves and their friends in the pages and story. This is a wonderful book to add into the normal rotation for any small child!!!

Orthodoxy and Catholicism: What are the Differences?
This book has left me a sour impression of Orthodoxy. The author, despite having been Catholic and having gone to Catholic Universities, is not very educated as to what and why the Catholic Church teaches about the very points of dispute he wrote about.
Also, am I to believe he writes for all Orthodox Churches or just his own based on the title of his booklet?

From a Roman Catholic perspective, this book does not present the issues fairly in my opinion. I understand it's trying to simplify for a popular audience, but none of these issues cited are simple. I don't even think it can be done in a booklet like this.
Former adherents of Orthodoxy who leave for Catholicism are probably the worst people to talk to Orthodoxy about. Right?

Love Comes Down (board book)
"Love Comes Down" beautifully illustrates examples of God's love in His creation in everyday life and through Jesus. The illustrations are captivating for young and adult eyes alike! This book also thoughtfully portrays children of various ethnicities. The board book is durable, and the size is easy to carry in a purse, yet large enough to see the lovely details. I highly recommend this book!

The first thing I noticed about Love Comes Down continues to be my favorite aspect of this winsome book: every page has tiny details to discover. This is a book that rewards careful attention. I remember the time I took, as a child, studying the pages of picture books--telling my own stories about everything I noticed. I could have spent hours with a book like this, committing to memory the rows of snowy roofs in the background of one image, or wondering what lay hidden behind a stone wall in another.
But it's not just that there are many details here--it's that so many details are tiny: specks of birdseed, leaves from newly emerging plants, heart-shaped love notes sprinkled here and there. This focus on the small and easy-to-overlook harmonizes with the text, which pays attention to the tender care children love to give to the small and vulnerable--from seedlings to baby birds--and links this care to God's love and care for each of us, particularly in the person of Jesus Christ.

Love Comes Down is an absolutely delightful book! It has already become a bedtime favorite for my boys (4 years and 18 months). The melody is sweet and simple, and it perfectly matches the loveliness of the lyrics and illustrations. The song explains in beautiful simplicity how love always comes down…whether it is us bending down to plant a seed or God Himself becoming man to dwell among us. Few board books are able to capture such deep theological truths in such a simple, yet stunningly beautiful, way. Beautiful, simple, true. Five out of five stars!
