They wood had a few dents in it

During my forty days with my precious fourth child, I was blessed to read this book.
When my days felt hard and all encompassing, I could read a short while on the specific day and pull a nugget of peace, perspective, truth, reality, community, nourishment into my space. Sometimes there was a tool, or sometimes a reflection, often a Saints quote helped humble me to know I had strength for this moment or this day.
Im truly grateful for the words I read during this time. It’s never easy but often beautiful to bring a new being into the world, this time was extra sweet with the gift of this book.
So, go ahead and bless yourself, or your sisters in Christ, or a woman you don’t know with a copy of this work of love. It’s invaluable.

This book is an incredible, succinct overview of Fr. Peter's journey to orthodoxy out of the evangelical church. While I love the whole story, the most crucial section to me was Part 2. There he addresses common questions and objections that Protestants have regarding Orthodox Christianity. Immensely helpful to me as an inquirer with a heavily Protestant background. Also, his writing style is frank and clear, which is helpful when wrestling with deep topics. Absolutely recommend this book whether or not you are considering conversion!

Amazing book! Great author and can’t wait for more!

Of all the Orthodox books, this is the one that is always next to my Bible and prayerbook. I use it daily, month after month. It is the book I recommend most highly and keep on the shelves of our bookstore. The meditations are deep, some poetically so, without being theologically "technical." Fr. Patrick is able to weave in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin, not in a heavy handed way, but as language, that gift of God, to be used to express Truth. He also incorporates the daily, seasonal, and/or liturgical use of particular psalms from the East AND from the West, much appreciated. I am quite the Reardon groupie!

I loved this book!!

Thinking Orthodox is a comprehensive look at the fundamentals of praxis in Orthodox Tradition and theology. The life of the Westerner and the life of the Orthodox are very different in application just because of how each operates out of theological understanding.

What I really appreciate about this book is the balance Dr Constantinou employs in each facet of praxis: she identifies and addresses both extremes in Orthodoxy. No one is left without commentary for corrective reproach.

This is a valuable tool for catechumen who are more theologically minded (especially for those who come from more extreme Western backgrounds, like Reformed theology); for any Orthodox who desires to grow in their theological understandings of the Faith, and to find the appropriate balance of patience and zeal. If you are not very theologically-minded, this may potentially confuse you.

I recommend reading with someone, as I did with my best friend. We made good sounding boards for each other as we came from different ends, both desiring the balance of the middle. And as always, and as we did, it is of eternal importance to consult your priest with all things theology!

Beautiful and just what I've expected.

What proves this book is good is that I am finding my reading of holy scripture transformed: it is enriched and revitalised and everything links together so much better. This is an astounding achievement. On the negative side, I find the use of English a little too colloquial which leads to ambiguity of meaning, certainly for someone who uses British English like myself. Some sentences I read and reread and simply couldn't work out which way they were heading. I would like a more academic version of this book, knee deep in footnotes! That for me would be ideal as it would make the author's style less of an issue and enable me to enter more fully into what he is trying to say. Also, I find the vocalising of the Tetragrammaton deeply difficult to cope with. It is more shocking for me, from my cultural background, than if the author were dropping the 'N word' for African Americans. It makes the reading of the book very uncomfortable. Therefore it is difficult to recommend to others, especially here in Eastern Europe, where the influence of the brand of academic Protestantism which popularised this in modern times has not been felt.
