Fantastic book
Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy: Finding the Way to Christ in a Complicated Religious Landscape (2017 edition)
Fr. Andrew does a great job outlining the differences between the different religions in a very respectful and scientific way. We, Orthodox Christians, usually are not very educated about other religions/denominations so this book think is a must for everyone.

Truly Human: Recovering Your Humanity in a Broken World
This is the rare book that discusses spiritual growth in the context of psychological and social maturity. In that way, it makes the faith accessible to adults, particularly men, who are searching for authentic faith in mid-life. For some with a long and rich prayer life, this more psychological approach may not seem as urgent. However, I have found it complements traditional discussions of asceticism, as it addresses the same theme of knowing oneself and God in a context of the body and social interactions that most people can relate to immediately. It consequently will open some new avenues for the spiritually experienced, as well as offer a way for those turning to God to encounter Him in one's daily life.

I Live Again: A Memoir of Ileana, Princess of Romania and Archduchess of Austria
This book takes the reader on the journey of Ileana’s life as a princess. It begins by introducing her younger years in the palace; then goes on to tell of her life as a refugee during World War I; then back to palace life when the war was over. The bulk of the book discloses the subsequent changes and challenges presented by World War II and the consequential struggles of Romania and her people in its aftermath.

Time after time in her story, the reader wonders at Princess Ileana’s strength, feels exhausted by her hard work, and is amazed at her diligence and determination in the midst of the difficult situations surrounding her. Again and again she tells instances of God’s provision, not just for her and her family, but also for the people she served and loved. This story would be unbelievable, were it fictitious, but it is true.

So, “what is it like to be a princess?” This book will forever change the reader’s view on that title. Commitment, pain, joy, trust in God, and dedication all are themes in this book. Perhaps they are what it is like to be a princess? They were, at least, what it was like for Princess Ileana of Romania!

Time and Despondency: Regaining the Present in Faith and Life
Nicole Roccas’ “Time and Despondency” takes the reader on a journey through time and thought as it addresses the relationship between time and despondency, which is “no less than a perpetual attempt by the mind to flee from the present moment, to disregard the gift of God’s presence at each juncture of time and space.” (p. 15) The book offers much to ponder, including quotes from church fathers and other noted Christian authors, all pointing to the fact that despondency is a real problem for Christians. Not just teens and young adults encounter despondency. It is a struggle for Christians of all ages.

But this book does not merely shake a finger in the face of its readers, scolding them for not caring or for abandoning the present or God, Who meets us in the present. Rather, the book extends grace to the reader. It encourages them to do the same to themselves and to others. Then it walks the reader through a host of ideas of ways to begin to heal and step away from despondency; whether with counter statements from scripture or with stepping stones built on virtues and disciplines.

Everything Tells Us about God
Page after engaging page, this book points out different things in our world (which is like a puzzle full of important pieces), and how God uses each of them to teach us about Himself. For example, the sun tells us we can’t live without God because His love warms our hearts and helps us to grow closer to Him. The food that we eat reminds us that God always makes sure we have what we need, and that He always takes care of us. The animals tell us about God, too: elephants help us see how mighty God is; hens and chicks remind us of how He cares for us; doves remind us of how the Holy Spirit brings us peace; etc. Readers will savor the delightful images in this book as well as its message. This book successfully reminds each reader that they are an important part of God's puzzle. He wants to show the world part of Himself through each one!

Sasha and the Dragon
Night time is the scariest for Sasha. Even though he signs himself with the cross before going to bed, he always feels the grey, unfamiliar shadows of the city lurking. One night, as Sasha lies in bed trying to go to sleep, he hears sounds under his bed, which he discovers to be a huge dragon. This is the story of how Sasha prays when he feels the most terrified, and St. Michael storms to his aid.

The Sweetness of Grace: Stories of Christian Trial and Victory
"The Sweetness of Grace: Stories of Christian Trial and Victory" did not disappoint. Presvytera Constantina's learnings, which she so readily shares in each of her books leaves her readers laughing, crying, covered in goose bumps, and longing to become the human God has created them to be. Each chapter is titled with one of the Beatitudes and consists of stories and encouragement related to that Beatitude. Some of the stories are ones that Presvytera Constantina has heard along her journey. Others are her own personal experiences. Every story points the reader towards godliness, both encouraging and challenging by turns.
