The author takes us on a journey as she explores and transitions from Catholic to Orthodox and shares her personal insights and life. Makes me want to get some army boots. An excellent read.

If you are curious about Orthodox Christianity this is a good book to read. It touches on all major beliefs in any easy to read and understand way. Scripture shown to back up the points. Pretty easy and quick read.

Fr Matta was a holy, spiritual man, first and foremost. This book is exhortations for all Christians, that is all True believers to seek God in utmost humility in being a Christian servant.
Quote: ' The essence of service is a deeply mystical thing, far beyond human nature.'
Pray for us Matthew the Poor!

Her honesty about the difficulty of life. Written from the perspective of a very busy mother, wife and professional writer.

Another incredible work by Fr. Maximos Constas. — First, it must must be said that this is a beautiful book from the physical perspective. It has a lovely embossed cover, nice decorative pages, and fits nicely in the hand. More importantly, however, this is a beautiful book from the spiritual perspective; the prayers to the Theotokos are moving and some are rendered in English here for the first time. Fr. Maximos did a great service in translating these!

My book (Turning the Heart to God) arrived early. I was happy to see it so early. Anything written by Saint Theophan the Recluse is good reading. This saint also wrote (another good book which I read already) about how Evangelical Christians have a different Jesus to Orthodox Christians called, 'Preaching Another Christ: An Orthodox View of Evangelicalism' (by Saint Theophan the Recluse).

This author takes so many deeper thoughts from the Church Fathers and Church tradition and shares them in a plainly but beautifully spoken way. His own life experiences resonate with the reader because we have all been swept out in the tide of our brokenness and recognize our need for healing and the restoration of our true identity in Christ.

Great book for new mothers!

This is a beautiful book, full of valuable prayers, and attractively presented. It will enrich your spirituality.

Wonderful collection in a very nice and durable binding.

This book is among my favorite books of all time. It was recommended by my spiritual father who always recommends the best books, and this was no exception. The book is written as a conversation between the author and the elder, with questions an answers about the Jesus Prayer. Practical, theoretical, beautiful, and fascinating, this book is a must-read for anyone who wants to know more about prayer of the heart.

I have several copies of this and have prayed this akathist so many times - if you are a parents, godparent, or anyone who has children that they love and pray for, this is a beautiful akathist to pray for them. The akathist form is simple and lovely, and is a great blessing for parents and children alike!

This book is an excellent introduction to the faith - the perfect gift for a new convert or someone interested in the faith, and is readable enough to offer teens and young adults wanting to know more why we believe what we do, and why how we live our faith is important. The tone is gentle and inviting, and the information is clear and well organized.

Oh this is a great cookbook! The recipes are absolutely delicious, but there is so much more to this book! Raising children in the faith is a challenge, and this book is an excellent practical help for how to make that work without sending them running. I received this book as a gift from a dear friend, and I am so happy to have it on my shelf.

First of all, this book is BEAUTIFUL. The pictures, the binding, it is just lovely. Beyond that, it is PACKED with information about the different feasts - why they are celebrated, how they are celebrated, and on and on. The feasts are such a huge part of our yearly cycles as Orthodox Christians, so to see each feast laid out so wonderfully is incredibly edifying. It is a joy to watch my children come back to this book again and again as the feasts come around each year. This book belongs in every home with children and is very giftable!

Couldn't put it down until it was done, which hasn't happened to me in a long while. Living in a culture that only passive aggressively persecutes Christianity it's easy to forget about cultures that have experienced and are experiencing this sort of true and awful direct persecution. This novel paints a vivid picture in our own culture of what so many other have suffered in theirs. It is terrifying, but also beautiful to see the faith amid serious violence. So real and so beautifully told I came here to see what else this author has written, and thought I should write a review. Highly recommend, but not for the faint of heart - VERY serious subject matter.

This series of sermons by the golden-tongued himself is incredibly pertinent so many centuries later. He takes the parable of Lazarus and the rich man and brings it alive in ways that challenge and inspire. If you haven't read this, you should.

Having read a fair bit of this illustrious saint's words, it is fascinating to read these letters - so very different from his sermons. They are loving and tender, written to a dear friend who is suffering, trying to encourage her as he is going through his own struggles that would eventually end his life. How he delves into the old testament to encourage and show love is just beautiful.

This is among the most inspiring books I have ever read. The first part is written by Elder Sophrony, speaking of his time with this simple and incredible saint of the church, St Silouan. It tells of his life and the things that he taught to Elder Sophrony, and then contains the "jottings" of the saint - a glimpse into his holy and brilliant mind. I love this book, and highly recommend more people to read it!

This is a beautifully written book that utilizes the spiritual principles of Eastern Orthodoxy for diet and health. The author, a registered dietitian, combines solid, science-based nutritional advice with quotes and examples culled from among the early saints of the Christian faith which are sometimes humorous and always enlightening. I had to put the book down several times to "digest" the lovely anecdotes provided and found myself at mealtimes not only thinking about them, but putting them into practice! One such gem that offers a solution to cutting down on over-sized portions is to "Serve yourself as if you intend on having seconds," but don't. I have always struggled with portions. After adopting that one simple trick, my plate and portions actually look normal, and I realized I am able to feel full on much less food.

In addition to suggesting dietary tweaks that emphasize health and wellness, as opposed to quick and unsustainable weight loss, the author addresses disordered eating in general, which is, arguably, the real issue going on in North America, whether a person is 100 pounds overweight or underweight.

We are told these days to eat less and to move more, to fast for weight loss and good health, but divorced from their spiritual underpinnings, these recommendations are very hard to sustain. Put simply, we need a bigger reason, a bigger why.

This book will make eating enjoyable again. It reminds the reader that food is sacred and meal times a communal practice between us, the earth and our marvelous Creator.
