Everywhere Present: Christianity in a One-Storey Universe
Excellent analogy to a two story spiritual universe.
Well written and easy to read, enjoyable.
Quite true to its point.
I quite enjoyed reading it!

A balm. Comforting, yet challenging
Nearly Orthodox: On Being a Modern Woman in an Ancient Tradition
A talented writer, more than proficient with words, a great artist of form and structure. Her open hearted honesty and willingness to bare herself to the reader -- broken, bleeding, triumphant and strong -- is not just endearing, it's transforming.

Royal Monastic: Princess Ileana of Romania
I'm listing many books I purchased here on Amazon so others can see what's in my Orthodox library. I will come back in the future and rate each one separately. Nearly all these books were suggested by a Romanian monk. I purchased all these books for him several years ago. I bought two copies each and kept one for me. I've enjoyed everything so far. Happy reading...

Close to Home: One Orthodox Mother’s Quest for Patience, Peace, and Perseverance
This is a great book! I am a Stay at Home Mom to two precious little girls. I am so blessed, but sometimes life as a Mom is challenging. This book does a great job of being raw and honest, but also encouraging you along the way! It is a must for all Orthodox Moms!

Surprised by Christ: My Journey from Judaism to Orthodox Christianity
The first time I heard about Fr James Bernstein when I read his article "Which Came First: The Church or the New Testament?" Frankly, I didn't know the answer that time. Then I read his other article, "The Original Christian Gospel". Google them. They are worth reading: deep, well written, and profound. And then I bought this book, the marvelous story of Fr James' spiritual journey towards the original Church of the Gospels.

What can I say? This is a great book. And if you have already read Fr James Bernstein's articles, then get it. It's not only a compelling autobiography but also a great introduction to Orthodoxy.

I am buying my second copy.

Lynette’s Hope: The Witness of Lynette Katherine Hoppe
The story of Lynette's journey, presented by her own words in her journal, is very inspirational. I highly recommend this book to anyone, whether ill or not.

Last of the series, but does not disappoint
The Epistle to the Hebrews: High Priest in Heaven
The Epistle to the Hebrews is the latest and perhaps last volume of The Orthodox Bible Study Companion Series. The format stays true to previous volumes in that it includes both Biblical text and commentary from Fr. Lawrence Farley. I have been awaiting this volume for a while, because this epistle was always a bit confusing to me for two reasons. Number One, people often misattribute its authorship to St. Paul, and it bugged me that we didn't know who wrote it. Secondly, it was written to a Jewish audience of that time, and since I am not Jewish some of the finer details of this epistle puzzled me.

Fr. Farley however masterfully works his way through this epistle, which explains to us the importance of Jesus. We (and the Hebrew people back then) learn that Jesus is superior to the angels; greater than Moses; like Melchizedek; that He is High Priest of all of Heaven and Earth; and that we must continue to follow Him, even in times of persecution. My favorite part in these books is always the excurses (detailed side notes). Here, Fr. Farley talks about subjects such as the sacrifice of Christ and the Eucharist. Abolition of the Old Covenant, and the Wrath of God. This volume did not disappoint. I feel more knowledgeable having read it, and am glad I received it to complete my collection of this series. I hope that Fr. Farley will consider a new series for the Old Testament, but understand if he will not. A great book and a perfect commentary for anyone, not just the scholarly. Five stars.

On the Upbringing of Children
Wish I read this earlier but better late than never. Excellent advice for all Orthodox parents. You'd think it was written today - very relevant for 21st century families trying to survive.

The Ancient Faith Prayer Book
This is a beautiful book and it fills a need that has gone unfulfilled all of these years as a Christian. I've bounced from prayer book to prayer book and never felt that they ticked all of the boxes: the modern ones were too casual, the older ones full of cumbersome Victorian English that I find difficult to read while also trying to meditate and pray the words. (And also quite sappy and unappealing...)

This prayer book stands alone with, as the product description states, elegant contemporary English ~ a straight forward style, the words are beautiful and they guide you into prayer.

The book itself is just the right size, easy to slip into my purse when on the go and not at all heavy or awkward to handle.

The cover is made of sturdy faux leather, slightly thicker then standard paper back covers.

The spine of the book flexible so that the book is very easy to open and hold open even at the middle pages.

The print is a good size, solid black set against slightly creamy paper.

The headings are in red type which make them easy to catch the eye. In this way it is easy to navigate the book.

Each prayer begins with a lovely ornate capital letter which adds a lovely touch.

This was a great purchase and I know that me and my family will treasure this book for years to come!

Coming Home: Why Protestant Clergy are Becoming Orthodox
An Excellent little book of the experience of a number of people who have "Found" the Orthodox Church after wandering far and wide and all of them experience the heart-felt experience of having finally, "Come Home" after a long journey. I enjoyed the booklet very much because I, also have "come home" to the Orthodox Church after being Baptized in the Roman Catholic Church three days after I was born in the Autumn of 1942. I have travelled the long road through the devastation of the Church after Vatican II, into the Indult Mass, grudgingly granted by a few Bishops in a few Parishes around the world for those of us who clung to the Traditional Mass and Teachings we had been taught as children and lived for so many years, then with the Indult priests and venues getting scarce and their involvement with "Modernist Rome" becoming more than problematical I joined the Society of St. Pius X, founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, and later became an Oblate Sister with them and served in different parts of the world for ten years at which time, rather than make my "Perpetual Engagement" I left the Oblates because the leaders of the SSPX were making secret and not-so-secret overtures to be "united" with Rome and I wanted no part of this treason against the Traditional Catholic Faith. I returned for a year to my former SSPX Parish and then went with one of the Priests and a number of the parishioners and for a year became a member of the SSPX Resistance and then, when I told my Priest that I no longer believed that the Pope was infallible and that I had began to doubt it ever since Pope John XXIII and even after reading extensively back into the history of the Church I was having doubts about even Pope Pius IX who had declared, "The Infallibility of the Pope". My Priest wrote me a list of all the reasons Why I MUST believe in the Infallibility of the Pope and said if I did not acquiesce I would be "excommunicated". I told him that I could not in all conscience agree to all the errors and actions of the Vatican II Popes and very many of the Popes throughout history. We came to the parting of the ways and I ceased to belong to the Parish and found myself asking, "What now Lord?" And "Lo and Behold", I found myself thinking about the Orthodox Church since I had been reading about Vladimir Putin's being a member of the Orthodox Church and also, I had "discovered" and been reading Brother Nathaniel Kapner's website so I checked where the closest one was and found it only blocks away from where I had formerly been going to Church. I have been going there and studying Orthodoxy and am now on the journey to being "Chrismated" and then to becoming a full-fledged member of the Orthodox Church. I, also have "Come Home" and I am filled with Joy and Happiness, beyond words to express!
