It was perfect. Very well made and beautiful.

It’s a wonderful book about my granddaughter’s patron!

It was a surprisingly “quick” read, given the number of pages. Both my husband and I enjoyed an inside look into monastic life. Additionally, the history of Russia and the Church was fascinating.

Beautiful bookmarks ❤️

In Face to Face, Fr. Stephen Freeman argues against the prevalent notion that Christ’s incarnational mission was to simply pay the price for man’s poor choices. He insists instead that Jesus came to heal a relational breech–– man and God are separated by toxic shame. This same shame separates man from man and man from himself.  Freeman’s thesis jumps off the page in chapter three:
“Shame is not sin (or even sinful), rather it is an emotional signal that accompanies severed communion.”
While never downplaying the deep and long-term work necessary for healing, Freeman holds up the constant hope: If our Lord can turn an instrument of death –– His cross–– into an instrument of life, can He not turn our places of broken communion into an opportunity for intimacy?

An excellent guide to our Lord's last week on earth. An explanation without hagiography shows the story as a first century believer might have heard it.

I love having a pocket prayer book. The prayer book gives me the words I need when I can't find the words to pray. I'm a recent convert to the Church and find the prayer book helpful in my daily.

If you are not someone who typically enjoys historical/theological books, do not be discouraged by the title! Although I am not someone who easily reads through theological books, I could not put down The Story of Jesus: A History and Theology of Christ by Fr. Matthew the Poor. This book is truly incredible because it weaves the story of Jesus’s life into the historical context in a way that brings the richness of the details in the familiar Bible stories to life. Where were the three wise men from? What context do we have about this star they followed? Why should we care about the water pots in Jesus’s first miracle at the Wedding of Cana of Galilee? How am I supposed to relate the details in all these stories to my own life? Fr. Matthew the Poor answers all these questions in this book and teaches us not just about the story of Jesus, but how to live the story of Jesus with Christ.

The book is written beautifully and expertly, and it flows in a manner that makes it easy to read despite the depth of the concepts contained. While reading, I could not stop telling people in my church about this book, gifted a copy of this book to someone, and even shared passages of the book with my Sunday School kids because of its richness. Please pick up this book and read it. You will not be disappointed.

For someone not yet Orthodox Christian, The Lenten Triodion presents challenges to understand. The isn't a fault or criticism. Scripture and Tradition are centuries old.
The cover, paper, printing, and binding are beautiful.

For someone who is Protestant and hoping to become Orthodox Christian, this book provides information and explanations that are most valuable. I don’t know how I might have come to receive them otherwise.

Beautiful binding. Nice enlarged font.

Transformative. Required reading for every Christian at any time of year.

Beautiful illustrations! Wonderful stories!

When I first received the book "Rediscovering the Goodness of Creation" and looked at the subtitle "A Manual for Recovering Gnostics," I had a chuckle and thought to myself "this is not me" but still looked forward to a book about the inherent goodness of creation. Yeah, wrong. Although I was partially raised in a conservative, liturgically-minded Episcopal Church, and despite being an Orthodox Christian for nearly 15 years, I was quite surprised at how I saw shadows of myself in some of the Gnostic viewpoints against creation.
This realization was brought about so quickly by Robin Phillips' ease with bringing the reader into his world. By openly sharing his background and journey to Orthodoxy, the path to subtle Gnosticism when it comes to creation was made clear to me. This is not just a memoir, though. Mr. Phillips navigates the viewpoints on a created Earth that is either worshipped or vilified, and brings focus to its purpose through our Creator.
Creation is no easy subject to discuss - it can quickly become a Socratic debate between ultra-secular scientists and fundamentalist Protestants. Frankly, I have zero interest in these types of arguments and was hoping for something deeper when I received this book. I was not disappointed. Mr. Phillips is very well-researched and draws from a wealth of theologians, authors, philosophers, and historians across the centuries.
Although I would like to have seen more references to the Church Fathers and other Orthodox authors and theologians, I don't feel as if Mr. Phillips' overall argument was tarnished by this shortcoming. Creation IS good, it WILL be restored; this central theme brought an inexpressible joy and peace as I contemplated each page.
As I began to approach the end of the book, I was thrilled to see the "manual" part of the subtitle live up to its meaning! We all sometimes need instruction, a practical application, for the big principles and ideas that drive our faith. Mr. Phillips delivered that advice as only someone who needed it himself could. These steps toward not being Gnostic are all relatable and useful no matter where you are in your journey toward rediscovering the goodness of creation.

Appropriate for a multiplicity of Orthodox occasions.

This little prayer book has been such a blessing to me, and i pray it will be a blessing to you as well.

Beautiful artwork along with enchanting story telling.
