Slick action, great quality, if it was just a tad bigger of a grip/handle for my mungo hands it would be perfect.

Kershaw Iridium (KE-2038)
If you are looking for an incredible, budget friendly knife, the Iridium is where its at! I am so impressed with this knife, Kershaw really nailed it with the Iridium. The knife came extremely sharp out of the box, and the action to open and close the knife is fantastic. Very, very smooth, and took my knife about a day or two or properly break in the cross bar lock. Be wary, it is a super fidgety knife. Lots of fun to play with, but also gets the job done, and then more, when you need it to. Hiighly recommend for an EDC. The knife just looks sexy as well. 10/10

Boker Plus Nessmi Pro Black (02BO066)
While I have many, this Boker Nessmuk style blade is very useful in field in processing game, camp kitchen work , light whittling. It has superior comfort and control of cutting things. It is not the size for wood processing, we should all have alternate blades for that. Fit and finish is superior. The linen micarta handle could be rounded a bit to avoid hot spots. One small knock is that the sheath is garbage. It has a rivet on bottom that will wear on blade during entry and exit of knife. I replaced with a aftermarket kydex. Don't ask , search and ye will find.

This hollow grind, oval opening hole, duel straight and serrated blade with an odd iit logo has been a mystery to me fo a pong time. All my Google image searches bring me here and Spyderco knives are very similar in many ways nut not the logo. Maybe someone can shine a light on this for me.

After owning a few crossbar locking knives from some other reputable names I was interested to see WE's take and they did not disappoint, by far the smoothest action I've ever felt on a crossbar lock and the fit and finish is top shelf.

Spyderco Military 2 G10 Black (C36GPBK2)
The military 2 was to be the first Spyderco in my collection. I always hated the look of Spydercos but they’ve recently really grown on me. After playing with one in store I realized what all the fanboys were saying. The thumb hole is amazing, the ergos are incredible.

The experience: My Military 2 came with a blemish on the blade and unbearable lock stick. The blemish I was able to look past, but the lock stick genuinely made my finger/thumb sore trying to break it in over the last month. HOK customer service was very good to me and although the product was far below my standards, this is not a HOK issue. When I reached out to Spyderco directly (the following day after I purchased my knife from HOK) they suggested sending it to them for warranty work. After spending, what to me is, a premium price for a knife, the thought of paying out of pocket to ship a knife to them to make their own knife function as it should was ridiculous. I admit I’m definitely a diva but after spending this kind of money on a folder I want it operating properly. My experience with Spyderco was less than ideal but HOK was amazing.

The knife itself: unbelievable ergos and incredibly lightweight. This is definitely my favourite knife ever purchased, from Kershaws to Benchmades. The all black DLC is absolutely sick. The different clip attachment points is a great step up from the single tip down carry position of the military. The blade came sharp enough to shave arm hair right out of the box. The compression lock is great in theory but I’ve read many people have this same lock stick issue. When executed properly it does make for a beautiful lock. It can keep your fingers out of the blade path while closing and the lockup is definitely superior to a liner lock.

TLDR Spyderco QC is questionable but they allegedly offer a good warranty. The military 2 is a great knife and now probably the favourite in my collection. The compression lock is great when executed properly, and it seems they are notorious for lock stick. My advice is to buy in store or ask if there’s a possibility a blade specialist can do a QC check on your spyderco before fulfilling your order. HOK is a pleasure to deal with and I can’t recommend them enough. The 2 star rating is my experience with Spyderco and the faulty compression lock, HOK gets another 5 stars.

Spyderco Reveal 16 Shaman G10 Cobalt Blue (C229GPCBL)
The Shaman has been out long enough at this point—almost 8 years at the time of this writing in early 2025—that I won't be revealing any groundbreaking insights into the design in this review to anyone who is at all familiar with Spyderco's folders. But here are the basics, anyway: Designed by Spyderco founder Sal Glesser based on his iconic Native 5 folder, the Shaman is arguably the company's flagship regular production model, at least based on pricing. In hand, its substantial, generously contoured G10 handle scales make the knife feel more like a premium fixed-blade belt knife than a pocket knife in terms of comfort. But despite the handle's girth, the Shaman still manages to fit comfortably in all but the most restrictive of jeans or work pants pockets. The knife comes with quite the beefy blade to go with its hand-filling handle. It definitely isn't the best slicer in Spyderco's product line-up because of the above-average blade stock thickness, but given the blade's full-flat grind & broadness, it still comes down to a pretty acute BTE geometry, making it cut much better than its appearance might initially suggest. All that mass behind the edge should also help it better stand up to lateral forces (within reason).

What sets this version of the Shaman apart from the standard model is, of course, the use of Spyderco's proprietary SPY27 steel instead of S30V. I wouldn't call it an upgrade per se, more like a lateral move: SPY27 trades some edge retention in exchange for a bit more toughness & corrosion resistance & increased ease of sharpening compared to S30V, at least on paper. Depending on one's use context, this might make SPY27 a better choice, especially since the SPY27 & S30V Shamans are priced similarly. As someone who has used both steels in the same model extensively in a work setting however, they are close enough to each other in cutting performance & durability that I'd be hard-pressed to tell them apart with any degree of reliability based on those characteristics alone. I do find that SPY27 seems to respond to strops & hones more readily than S30V—probably due to its slightly lower vanadium carbide volume—but that's more of a feel-based impression than anything else.

Also worth noting: the SPY27 Shaman has a satin finish on the blade, as opposed to the stonewashed finish of the standard S30V model. I wish Spyderco had stuck with the stonewash, personally, but that's just aesthetic preference, and one could argue that the satin finish further emphasizes SPY27's stainlessness advantage over S30V.

The Shaman (in any steel) is easily one of the most robust production folders on the market today, and has the most comfortable handle for extended cutting tasks that I've used, full stop. Still, it's a knife that I'm more likely to recommend to those who are already well into their knife journey & are looking to explore more premium territory. It's a great knife to be sure, definitely one of Spyderco's best, but no one "needs" a Shaman, and there are certainly better-value options—such as the aforementioned Native 5, and especially the Sage 5 Lightweight—for those looking for their first (or second, or third) Spyderco.
