I didn't like this knife and regretted the purchase. There are some good aspects however, not least of which that it came very sharp from the factory. I routinely sharpen my knives, even when they're new - I think I'm pretty good at it. Not this time, it was plenty sharp out of the package.

I was worried the modified "Spydie hole" wouldn't work as well as the round version on a Spyderco knife. I was wrong. As you rotate out the blade your thumb is always pressed against the round part - I never noticed the "beak" part of the Byrd hole.

You cannot flick this knife into the open position - I put that in the "good" category because that's what I wanted (the jurisprudence is mixed on this point in Canada, but there's some cases suggesting it isn't legal). The finger choil is also very handy - makes me feel like I could safely and comfortably apply more force to a cut. I like the jimping and thumb ramp too.

However, the finishing was very poor. I realize this is Spyderco's budget line, but there are much nicer knives even at this low price point. A QSP Penguin for example, is about the same price and way better - or pick up anything from Civivi and experience a whole different level.

The lockback mechanism was particularly poor on my knife. It was very stiff, which I could have lived with, but it also had sharp corners with a burr on one side. Because of the stiff lock it literally feels like I'm at risk of cutting my thumb when I close the knife.

The Byrd hole was also very sharp - but no burrs there, so it was less of an issue. The finger choil didn't have a consistent radius - there's a bump on the end nearest the blade than I can feel when I grip the knife, which is mildly uncomfortable. The plastic scales have sharp corners too. Overall, not a lot of attention to detail on this knife.

Aside from the finishing details, the handle shape also wasn't my favorite. I wear size large gloves with medium to skinny fingers. Where my fingers line up I felt like there were either squeezed together to fit before the hump on the underside of the handle - or awkwardly stretched out to get the pinky onto the flat part at the tail.

Three stars feels about right because there are some good aspects to this knife - it's got a very slicey full flat grind blade that you can easily choke up on - but the overall experience isn't great because of the poor finishing.

There’s something about the high quality of leatherman stuff… You can feel it when you hold their products… It’s almost like a work of art not just a tool; highly recommended!

While being slightly smaller that I had expected, it is an excellent knife. Flip open action is easy, blade retains edge and is easy to maintain.

Overall very pleased with the blade fit and finish is great blade is centered. Only problem I have is that the cutting edge is far off center. So the angles on both sides of the blade are significantly different

This knife was a bride's maid for a long time "Always the Bride's maid never the Bride" for some reason. It shouldn't have been. It is light weight but heavy duty enough for what a knife should do. The balance is nice and the finger grooves don't bother me as much as I thought they would. I can grip the handle just fine except for doing some whittling or feather stick making where I sometimes hold the blade backwards so I'm not cutting towards my thigh. Sharp right out of the box too. The sheath is the only reason this gets a 4 instead a 5 but that is to be objective and a bit picky. I would highly recommend this knife to a friend.
