I thought the knife would have been a little bigger than it is, but makes a good EDC knife. The knife is super sharp and looks great. Overall a really great knife.

Summary: This is a great EDC option & something every knife guy should have in their collection. Buyers should know the blade is thick & narrow, making it tougher & tailored for harder use, it's not dainty but that means it doesn't slice through material as well as some others (e.g. Paramilitary 2). It also has a reinforced tip. It's fully ambidextrous + S30V is a good stainless steel created solely for knives. It's quite expensive but also unique & made to be used like a multi-tool according to Warren Osborne (designer). The reverse-tanto part on the spine was designed for digging rocks out of animal hooves. Benchmade has an amazing warranty, they'll replace your springs, screws, & blade for free. I wouldn't worry about breakage.

Detailed review ramblings: I like the 940, it's slim & hides in your pocket, weighing very little. The action was a bit stiff initially but has broken in. There's no blade-play & it drops closed when I disengage the lock. I'm happy with it but it's dated if you're used to more recent releases. The Axis-Lock is nice but I expected it to be the best version of that lock, it's not. In general it feels a bit loose (mainly the closed detent) but it's not a problem & flicks out nicely. It's smooth to deploy & disengage the lock. At first, the lock was a tiny bit ... crunchy. Give it time to break in.

The Benchmade 940 came out in 2000. It's unchanged except the blade was upgraded to S30V (prior 940's used 154cm). It didn't come very sharp, the thick blade made it feel dull but not unusable. Benchmade sometimes has loose quality control. It's not a "slicer", it's meant for harder use tasks where the entire blade doesn't need to pass through material (e.g. zip ties). It struggles at times in regard to passing through things like cardboard or vegetables.

I'm quite happy with the Benchmade 940 from Warren Osborne. It fits a specific area in my knife collection & I'm happy to own one, even in 2026. My 940 is great. The QC I get here is always very nice. Thank you dearly, House of Knives.

There's a damned good reason why the original is so popular and this... Yea, it's solid. I will say that I think I prefer the Porcupine slightly more, but it's an excellent buy

This thing is a amazing little knife, super sharp, hard cutting sharp. Flips perfectly, zero adjustments needed out of the box. The design looks fantastic, whats to dislike? The knife is an awesome platform that seems to preform well. I tried to buy the one with the glow in the dark handle but apparently didn’t look close enough at the model number.

The ocean blue is just beautiful, after owning the porcupine in the same clour, I had to have the Naga with the same scales. Vosteed’s top liner lock is a winner, their knives are just such good quality for the price!

Just received it. The blade is not in the center. It's a little hard to open. Clearly not with only one hand like it suppoed to. The handle is a little small for my hand and not confortable. When open, the blade got a little shake... I not confident with it l.. It cut.. really sharp.. So, will not recommanded at all. Cheaper are better

The Porcupine exceeds expectations. Love the style and features. It fits nicely in hand, and is light enough not to be cumbersome in pocket. The blade is perfectly centered when closed and there is no play when it is locked open. Great click on deployment using the thumb hole or button release and wrist flick. I liked the micarta blue so much that I got the micarta green and gold one to gift. The colour accents on the blue micarta are a light blue, which looks awesome. One critique is that the blade seems to dull rather quickly, but it also takes an edge quickly...

I’ve bought this knife 2x in 2 years. I like the knife, but the clip is no good. I lost this one in 2 days off my pocket, the other in a week.
My other similar knife from Spyderco I’ve had for 5 years as EDC so it’s not me.
