Shun Classic 6" Chef's Knife (DM0723)
Love this knife. Love the feel in my hand, the look of the blade and how it slices. I needed a smaller chef's knife then the 10" I have, and this is perfect.

CRKT M16 - Tanto - Partial Serration - Zytel Handle (M16-10Z)
This knife was a bit disappointing. I wish I had been able to handle it before hand. The Tanto blade is excellent, but "assisted" opening is pretty weak, so weak it's totally pointless.
The safety liner lock is absolutely ridiculous. There should never be a need for an extra safely on the CLOSING of a folder if the liner lock is designed properly. All it does it prevent it from being able to be closed with one hand. It also gets in the way of the Carson flipper when opening too.

Work Sharp Culinary E5 Knife Sharpener With Honing Rod (CPE5)
Awesome sharpener... We cook a lot and are vegan so that means there is a lot of cutting and chopping... This sharpener made and keeps our knives so sharp I could probably shave with them... What a joy to cook with super sharp knives. It used to take me over an hour with my whet stones but now its just a few minutes! I bought the extra pack of sand paper and I really like the extra fine to get them that extra sharp. The steel works really well as well.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet Meat Cleaver 6" (31624-151)
It's ok. A good size for cutting up chicken and mashing garlic. One thing: there was a sticker under the cleaver that said "This Chinese knife is not for chopping meat or bones, as the delicate blade might get chipped. It will work very well for vegetables." Huh? What?
And in answer to House of Knives, nope, it does not "have that signature hole in the blade".
Anyway, it was reasonably priced and it's of acceptable quality.

Hi John,
That sounds very strange! I'm thinking the knife might have accidentally received the warning sticker in the factory, as Zwilling also makes Chinese/Vegetable Cleavers. But as long as your knife has that signature hole in the blade, it's not a Chinese/Vegetable cleaver, and you should be just fine for chopping for meat and joints!

Black Tusk Sherpa Black Plain Edge (SHRP-BK)
Opens smoothy but it resists opening easily using flipper lever. The knives steel is good and holds edge well. Blades length good. The finish good. Smooth opening little strength needed. Not bulky and light good all around knife for tasks in the field.

Victorinox RangerGrip 74 - Red (0.9723.CUS2)
I originally bought this tool for work and EDC in my backpack while in the office or field. I work as an inspector for Urban Forestry of a large municipality in Canada. The blade sharpens real nice, and pliers are solid. Pliers are not as strong as a Leatherman's but if I wanted a rusty tool in the woods or on the job, I would buy the Leatherman. This tool can serve out in the woods. You can trust this knife for apocalyptic situations as it opens many containers (wine bottles, other drink bottles, canned food) and can gain you access to vital nourishment. It has a sewing awl which can be used to drill dry wood for fire/ember dust or patch clothes, tarps or canvass, and to pith the brains of fish. The wire bender is acceptable, but not special. The pliers are good for opening sharp can edges, picking up toxic items and unhooking caught fish. The toothpick can be handy for hygiene, and the tweezers are a must for removal of ticks and splinters, but can also be used as a compass on a leaf or cork in a puddle, after magnetizing. The tweezers are very precise, and work extremely well for small embedded items. There are flathead screwdrivers which can be useful and also help to disassemble most WW2 rifles, but not most modern firearms. The overall size and weight of this tool is not so bad, but you will most likely keep it in a coat pocket or backpack, not your pants pocket. The knife is not 1-handed opening, but it does lock in the open position. I would say, this knife-tool is lacking a few things. It would be the ultimate survival knife if it also had:
-1 large + 1 small hex key
-1 small magnifying glass for fire starting or reading map details
-1 removable ferro rod for fire starting in bad weather
-1 folding saw
-1 removable cylindrical ceramic knife sharpener
-1 nail file (sharpens fish hooks and hunting points too)
-1 hinging openable compartment to store a fluff / dry tinder, or a few small fish hooks
-1 nail clipper
I may be asking a lot for those last items (I know there are some models already with saws, clippers and files) but I think that would be the ultimate Swiss army knife for survival, as the pliers are excellent, but are not offered in most survival models.
I would be willing to pay at least $220.00 - $240.00 CAD for such a model that includes all the original tools plus the ones mentioned, and I am sure many people with survivalist mentalities would agree with me on that one, and would also purchase.
But as for the current model, it is still a worthy knife for the price, and is definitely an asset in your backpack, lunch bag, EDC tactical bag, tackle box, hunting belt, toolbox, kitchen drawer, range bag, office or pocket.
So buy one.
