I purchased this mostly for the bottom bracket spacers, not sure I'll need the other components. There was 8 mm of spacers, exactly what I needed to exact fitment of the 120mm BBSHD to my Mongoose Hitch with 112mm bottom bracket. I painted the spacers black before installing for a more refined, "factory" appearance. In terms of quality, this kit rates 5 stars, but I'm only giving 8 because with shipping this cost $20. This seems a little steep for 8mm worth of spacers. They did work perfectly.

I did quite a bit of investigation online before deciding to upgrade my Mongoose Hitch fat tire bike with a BBSHD kit. This kit was the most appealing option to me because it seemed to be very well-thought-out and complete, resulting in a well-integrated, polished solution, with as much power as I needed. I investigated various suppliers and ended up selecting Luna as the supplier because (1) they clearly had a lot of satisfied customers, with a solid reputation for excellent customer support. This was evidenced by the useful information on their web site -- videos and a responsive forum/blog. All my questions were answered before I submitted my order! (2) they were a one-stop shop for the BBSHD kit and the ancilliary supplies needed... I wanted a 36T chainring for my installation, they had a nice option for that. Also their installation "help" package provided the spacers I needed. They offered the "hot rod" programming for the BBSHD that I wanted for my ORV trail use. (3) Their prices were a bit lower than some suppliers on many of their offerings.
The kit came quickly and was packaged very carefully, double boxed and with protective packaging. Everything was there and in perfect condition. I found the kit fairly easy to install, I was careful and took my time, it was definitely several hours, but there were no surprises and all the components seemed well made, they fit my bike without any issues. The replacement brake handles were better than the originals that came on my bike. I thought probably the hardest thing about the installation was cutting the small cylindrical spacers that fit between the motor and the motor positioning mounting plate. I measured carefully and purposely cut them ~1 mm too long, then filed the cut end to the exact right size with a nice smooth flat finish. They fit perfectly, the mount was very solid with the teeth visibly engaging with the bike's bottom bracket housing. The "help" package had 8 mm worth of bottom bracket spacers (I painted these black so they wouldn't look like add-ons) - exactly what I needed for sizing the 120 mm kit to my 112 mm bottom bracket. The cable routing was a little challenging, too, but I was able to get it looking pretty clean through careful positioning and numerous cable ties. The performance of the BBSHD package is great, I was impressed with the power of the motor. My intended usage is on ORV trails in northern WI, and also CO and NM, so I was trying to balance hill/sand performance with riding on paved surfaces. The 36T chainwheel seemed like the right choice. I had upgraded the freewheel from the original 14-28T 7-spd to a 11-34T 8-spd. I was a little concerned about the chainline with the BBSHD from my investigations. As it turned out, it worked out pretty well. The chain was pretty straight for 5th-6th gear, so the offset was decent from 3rd through 8th. For 1st and 2nd, the offset looked like a bit much to me, but it shifted fine and the chain stays on, probably due in large part for the thick/thin teeth on that nice Luna chainwheel. 1st and 2nd won't get a lot of use anyway, so it is nice to have them available even if they cause a little faster wear on the drivetrain. Bike performance - fwith a 52V battery I can go up the steepest hills here in SE MN bluff country in 4th gear, pedaling 10-13 mph easily at ~90 RPM with 500 watts of assist. On the flats, top speed at full throttle (1500W) is over 35 mph in 8th gear. I can only contribute to the pedaling up to about 25, then the chainwheel gets to spinning too fast for a mere mortal 68-year old human to keep up with. I wish there was a way to have two chainrings... seems like 30T and 48T would be ideal. I wonder if Bafang could make a version with the gear drive on the left side so that conventional cranksets could be used. I had a 42/32/22 triple on this bike before electrification... that 22T chainring with the 34T sprocket in back would just about climb up walls, but very slowly, and it was still a lot of effort on this heavy bike in any gear if you weren't going downhill! On the other hand, 25 mph is a pretty decent speed to be able to cruise at comfortably. So the 36T chainring is probably an OK compromise. The only other bothersome thing is the gear sensor... if you change gears going uphill, it feels like you're putting on the brakes when the motor pauses. Pedaling carefully can compensate some for this, but is a bit annoying. Other than that, the performance is really impressive, it is wonderful to have the hills flattened and this 71 lb. bike feeling like it doesn't weigh much of anything! Thanks, Luna! Great pegs

Great E Bike for the price. I've ridden it extensively on many Enduro type trails and performs almost as good as my Santa Cruz Megatower. Make sure you check the torque on there screws when you first receive the bike as a few of mine were loose. The only gripe I have with the bike is that the motor overheats very easily when riding in temperature is above 80° typically I get an error 14 even when pedaling in low gear after about three and a half miles. Other than that riding in cooler temperatures the bike seems to perform well

The fit and finish are fine. It just isn't stout enough for holding the BBSHD in place and flexes too easily.

The Sur Ron X is just what I was looking for. Very easy to build, customize and maintain. It’s great to just load up and go riding. You will not be disappointed with Luna- great customer service.

Luna works with Sur Ron to develop new parts for their bikes.Who would be better positioned to provide us with highest quality parts?Luna of course!But then wouldn't they want to make us pay their engineering costs too?Seems NOT, because these excellent 3" rise bars are every bit as good as Protapers bars, but at less than half the cost.Good on you Luna!You guys Rock!

The gear was easy to install. It helps to know that the motor will last longer with the ludicrous controller.

Bought this to replace the nylon gear when I eventually melt it as I expect to at some point. Lol. I seem to push my BBSHD to its limit. My guess is that the nylon gear will melt this summer when temps peal into the 40°C range like it did last summer here in the Great white North. Thanks Luna for helping me prepare for the worst.

This bike is awesome. Super fun to ride enduro. Only downside is this thing is expensive.

Pretty happy with the service, ease of ordering, quick shipping, etc. While its not Luna's fault supply chain and demand issues have made it very difficult to source a battery for my motor kit. I purchased the kit last month, and have not been able to complete the ebike conversion because i can't find a quality battery. I wish it had been more clear when I placed the order that batteries were not available. Again, batteries being hard to come by is not Luna's fault, but i think they could have done a better job notifying buyers that batteries were not available and there is no projected availability date.
