Overall stoked on the bike. Honestly was disappointed in the sparkle paint to begin with. Then the master cylinder for rear brake was faulty as I had no back brakes. So I had to spend $200 more before I could really even put the thing in the dirt. A little frustrating. Now it sounds like the caliper rubs the disc just a hair when it’s in top gear. I know this doesn’t make sense, we can’t figure it out. I just live with it. The bike is great all in all. But I think I can see why the price point was where it was at. Great bike, just a bit bummed getting it going. I would buy another. Matte black no disco sparkle !

I installed the "Electric bike" plate on my Sur Ron. It will help with the very occasional attack from mountain bikers who tell me I'm not welcome on their trails!

The seat is a big improvement over the stock seat. Unfortunately I got too enthusiastic last week, popped a huge wheelie, and tore a bit off the back of the new seat. Sniff. But a little black duct tape made it all better.

I ride my sur ron in the forest in southern Oregon lots of trees and rocks put two big dents in the stock skid plate in the first 20 miles. Order the stainless steel skid plate and got it promptly no problems installed easily fit perfect looks great and so far just some scuffs on the bottom from log hopping very good product.

Definitely better for 17” supermoto

Between my son and I we have owned 7 high powered ebikes. BBSHD, Ultra, CYC, and Brose powered bikes. For 4 years I have been trying I buy an XL Appllo but never saw one for sale. Two months ago one popped up on the Luna site and I bought it. The question is, is this a good bike? I have made all the modifications to make it a street cruiser that fits me. I have put 300 miles on it and I have been comparing it to my Scott spark with A CYC motor and my other bikes. Over all the Appllo has met and surpassed my expectations. The frame, motor, and battery have been well engineered and look great. The other components are not top of the line but for the price of this bike they good. The programming for the different modes, assist levels, and throttle is very proportional, and linear. Much better that the X1 ludicrous bike. It is not as fast as my bike with the CYC motor but it is quieter and it is still fast. Over all this is one of the best high powered bikes on the marked. Luna has done a great job with this bike.

Design is excellent, materials are generally good, factory execution sometimes questionable but easily fixable.

First off, I'm not using this in a typical fashion, 100% street riding and I'm probably the slowest Sur Ron rider on the planet by deliberate intention. I basically can't pedal a bicycle, so this is a cross between an electric wheel chair and a bicycle for me. On the plus side, dang can I go for just about forever. Just did a 27 mile ride with my wife on her bicycle (so average 15mph or so maybe) and came back home with 38% battery left. My butt gives out before the battery.

I'm also somewhat of a nitpicking engineer type, so keep in mind that I think overall this is a great bike, definitely a good replacement for a 50-80cc type bike etc. It has plenty of power, and carries me and a pack probably totaling 220Lbs with ease. But there are places where it's definitely from China and is improved markedly by upgrades and/or a little wrench TLC. (Particularly the seat, the stock seat violates the geneva convention on torture after a short while if you're street riding).

I upgraded this with the luna seat, seat lift, pro lift handlebars, and shimano metallic brake pads, Luna installed the SuperMoto kit for me.

The brake pad upgrade is a really good idea, either the metallic or composite shimano pads with the fins, depending on your application.

I had to also redo the primary belt tension as well as the chain tension, way too tight for both (the factory is notorious for this). YouTube is a great resource for walking you through doing the belt adjustments and other similar maintenance.

I recommend getting a torque wrench and metric hex drive sockets to make wrenching on the bike much easier than just a hex key, particularly for the M8 and M10 bolts. In general the bike is pretty easy to wrench on, I am impressed with the design in that regard in particular.

I was considering upgrading the stock headlight, but honestly it's totally fine for on street use, although I can see where having a big ass light bar for off road use would make sense. I'm probably going to bling it up with some led strips partially for safety/visibility and partially because I'm that sort of nerd.

The only other thing that I would like to add is a controllable charger. The charger is really good, but I'd love to be able to set the desired charge state instead of having to set a timer and manually unplug it. But this is coming from a guy who babied his iPhone battery to last 5 years by doing 80% charging by default.

The battery is really fantastic, which is critical to this bike being good. I've been driving electric for decades now, so I know a good battery pack when I see one.

Another nice thing is the usb port for plugging in your phone or GoPro. It's a surprisingly nice feature, I have a GoPro on the handlebars and with the usb plug the battery doesn't die in the middle of the ride time lapse.

Finally, I'll probably upgrade the throttle, from what I understand low speed smoothness can be improved with an upgraded throttle, kind of key when I'm tailing a bicycle rider. It's fine as-is, but does get a bit choppy at the bottom of the range. Most riders would probably not notice with normal riding, definitely a nit-pick.

There are reasons this bike is so popular, the cost/benefit is high, and upgrades are plentiful and generally easy to do.

Better than stock to be sure, but could use even more cush.

That said, 1" of cushion isn't really enough for my bony ass. The battery is outlasting my butt here, so if it had, say 2" of foam instead, it'd probably be perfect. I'm probably going to 3D print an additional cushion for it with TPU or something.

These bikes are awesome. Packing is good. It arrived in perfect conditions. Easy to assemble. I recommend to do the basic checks such as review bolts and axle tightening as per lots of videos in YouTube, applying grease in suspension axles and handlebar hub, review shocks air pressure, and adjustment of derailleur if necessary etc.
The bike rides great, the battery lasts very long and the power is fantastic. I really love this bike.

The waiting time was worthwhile.

I received the unit in perfect condition, right on time. I did need to solder a new male connector. It did not have the correct connector for my battery. I’m not sure if I specified it incorrectly but it was different than the mini charger I replaced.

Wanted to switch from a chain drive to belt drive and this adaptor made it possible and looks great too. Note it DOES NOT come with the needed specialty chain ring bolts which you’ll need to buy separately.

I built a Framed fat ebike from the frame up with the Luna BBSHD kit and love it. The motor has the power to climb the steepest hills with ease. When I ordered they have all the options there that you could need for your build. It made it easy. Thank you Luna.

Excelent charger and service

I was climbing a super steep hill with the BBSHD, giving it all she had. I could tell the motor was working overtime. This hill was dirt/technical and super steep. Sharp Rocks were everywhere. I was Sweating like crazy trying to hang on for dear life. It seemed as if time stood still as all the forces of nature, Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart were trying to warn me about something. Right as I was about to make it to the top, on the steepest part of the hill, the mighty miny gave out on me. The sprockets snapped, the chain burst into 1000 pieces. The explosion was almost too much to handle, but I survived. I went flying off of the bike at 1000 miles per hour hoping that something would break my fall. That's when I saw it. A bright light, it was like lighting. I had to do a double take. I could barely believe what my eyes were seeing. Keep in mind that I was falling at 1000 miles per hour. Anyway, I saw the BBSHD and the mighty mini flying towards me and come behind me, right before impact. Boom. I hit the ground. The BBSHD and the mighty mini sacrificed themselves and broke my fall. I landed right on my bike and away from the sharp rock.

I woke up, the dust had still not settled. A thick sent of dust and cold damp rock mixed with pine was in the air. I looked at my bike, bent and broken. It took me a while to come to the realization of what the mighty mini and BBSHD had done for me. They sacrificed themselves for me so I could ride another day. With tears in my eyes and my hands to the sky I yelled at the top of my lungs for this mighty mini loss.

Rest in peace mighty mini. It was a good ride!
