We purchased all the wood we needed to replace the old carpet on our stairs from Hardwood Lumber Company. Our project used hard maple retrofit treads with a 1/4" radius eased edge, wire brush texture, and tread coat with a satin sheen and Ohio Stain #111. The wire brush texture adds a bit of extra definition to the grain and provides a small amount of marring that helped mask the first scratches and dents that appeared with use. The wire brush texture runs parallel to the grain and tends to be concentrated at the short edge of the tread (not the case if a return is ordered), so keep this in mind if you don’t plan to cut that portion off when you install. We ordered 3/4” x 3/4” cove molding, 5” face x 3/4” tongue and groove flooring, and 3 1/2” landing tread all stained, tread coated, and wire brushed to match. We had two custom treads with returns made and they turned out great.

Our only complaint is that we didn’t realize we needed to add the 1-1/4” return onto the depth of my treads, so they came out too narrow and left a gap in front of the riser which added quite a bit of work to accommodate. Long story short, a 10-1/2” tread retrofit tread only covers 9-1/4” of the old tread, similarly a standard tread would allow for no overhang if pushed back to the riser.

Overall, very satisfied with the quality of the wood and service. There was even a promotion running for Black Friday/Cyberweek which helped offset the cost of shipping – an added bonus.

The block is excellent. One issue for me is I expected it to be very hard. I was applying a finish and had the block sitting on plastic standoffs and the standoff left dimples in the wood. other than those marks, the piece looks great under my turntable.

I replaced my stair treads and foyer floor with your product. My wife and I love it. We have received many complements from our friends and relatives. They all want to know where we purchased them. When I tell them it was not purchased from a big box store they are truly surprised. I always enjoy shopping at local companies over big box stores. I especially like the fact that your products are all made in house. From purchasing the lumber, milling it and refinishing it. I would use your product again and I recommend it to anybody that is looking to do a remodeling job. There are a lot of products that might be easier to apply but none near as good.
