The unit arrived at 1545 on the 3rd January, 2022. I chose to read the user guide that day. The next day I carefully unpacked the box and set about making a sensor mount. On the 5th I spent quite a few hours getting the mount installed about 100 feet away. I then put the sensor together and installed it on the mount. It was quite an ordeal making sure it was aligned to north and level but at last it was done. Today, the 6th, it was a question of reading the user guide and getting the console adjusted to the settings I wish to use. I still have to locate a local airport to have the barometric pressure reading. I have yet to connect the console to Wi-Fi and achieve live internet publishing.
Overall the user guide could be more helpful and it took a great deal of reading to become familiar with the setup. It is too early to say how good the weather station is but I am hopeful that in time it will be an excellent purchase. My recommendation below is based on my expectation not my present experience.

The two products I ordered were delivered quickly and in good order. Unfortunately, a third item I wanted was not in stock and there is response to tell me when it will be available again.
Also I just realized I needed some brackets but the size I need is not available.

I began webcam setup following the Quick Start instructions. These instructions were incomplete, confusing and misleading. There is a QR symbol that does not function at all. I then downloaded the complete instructions from the website. I was successful with installation but the camera would not stay connected when I removed the ethernet cable. I called the Wednesday before New Year’s Eve. The fellow I spoke with was NOT helpful. He told me to take a screen shot and email it to them. I needed to talk with the IT person. I left my number for a call back. NO call back. On 3 Jan I called again. I spoke with another chap who helped me get connected and stay connected. Took two attempts and about 1/2 hour. On 4 January I was unable to access the camera on my iPad. I called again. This person told me he did not see my camera feed AND that I needed to delete my camera and reinstall it. By this time I had spent close to 10 hours trying to connect the webcam. The person today was condescending and rude. I returned the webcam. I enjoy and have recommended the ambient weather station to others but the webcam software and instructions need to be rewritten and some of the employees can use a class or two in how to work with customers.

The WS-2000 I bought is fabulous and I'd rate it a 5 star device.
But this review is on my shopping experience, which was difficult.
Once I registered, I could no longer successfully proceed to checkout my order. I had to log out and proceed to purchase as a guest - that was the only way I could get the order in. The result is my order is not associated with my account.

After many years of owning an Ambient Weather Station our monitor gave out and so we upgraded to a new Ambient Weather Station and so glad we did. The new system is great! Lovely read out on the monitor and the station is operating great. Ambient Weather has always been so helpful. The station arrived sooner than expected and the set up was a breeze. Thanks!

I LOVE this Ambient Weather WS-5000. I highly recommend this weather station! I think this may very well be the best one for residential use on the market at any price. The optional soil moisture and Soil temperature and air particulate sensors with this are Great.

This is my first weather station - I had been researching various brands for well over a year. I had planned to buy either a Davis or Ambient, but I received the Ambient 5000 as a holiday gift so that ended my brand quest.
I can get a lot of lake effect snow in short bursts in my area so the feature that attracted me to the Ambient was the internal, cup free anemometer that won't get snowed in by the bursts of lake effect snow I mentioned.
There are a number of things the prospective owner needs to sort out ahead of time. It begins with specifically selecting the proper physical location of the station on your property where it can access sun light for the solar array so sun and wind will not be blocked by trees or buildings, what sort of mounting hardware is required for your particular situation because it’s not included and how to actually install the hardware. Will you buy the hardware from Ambient or create your own? I did the latter.
The station also potentially needs to be within about 60 feet of an AC outlet if you plan to use the heater for the wind sensor in cold weather. That accessory is not on Amazon, only available from Ambient as I write this review. It’s $50 from Ambient. There is no power indicator on the heater module or on the tablet so I put a VOM on it to be sure it was working when I attached the leads. Ambient really should add a power indicator light on the power module or on the internal tablet screen.
It’s disappointing that the rain gauge doesn’t have a heater as well. Without a heater, the rain gauge cannot process snow or freezing rain properly and it fills with snow quickly and becomes useless. The solar array would also benefit the solar array because it ices over very easily even with a spray lubricant applied (per the Ambient directions) and the solar array also quickly attracts and holds snow blocking the sun.
The set-up isn't difficult, it's just a lot of screwing around creating accounts for the Ambient website setup, the Ambient app setup, the Wunderground weather website set up and then how to actually assemble the station, connect the anemometer heater wire and set up the color indoor receiver.
In my case, I bought a 7 foot galvanized fence post for $30 at Lowes and ordered an American Ground screw model 3 premium no dig ground anchor for another $30 from Amazon to anchor my fence post to the ground so I can attach the weather station to the fence post. that setup also makes the pole easy to move if I don't like the location down the road.
This is NOT a plug and play setup. It requires a solid level of DIY skills and forethought.
The Ambient weather station directions can be confusing. It really needs a better "quick start" guide. I can understand why the user manual is the target of a lot of ire from Amazon reviewers. The manual is not well organized or clearly written and has some odd typos.
Locating the “north” directionality arrow on the sensor head and properly orienting it with a compass for accurate wind readings is required as is realizing that the Ambient laptop login and app login require separate set up and login data.
I added my own “bird spikes” to the rain cup. Ambient wants $25 for the same accessory and that's a kit that requires assembly. I had the bird spikes on hand from a prior project and used a large zip tie to attach them to the rain gauge cup which can double as a bird bath without the spikes.
Once the unit is setup, the data set is rich and deep and other than ice and snow maintenance, the unit is self-sufficient. I’m still working through all of the details but so far, the Ambient 5000 is pretty much what I wanted in a weather station.
So overall, this product is a project to install properly but if you want this depth of data, it’s required. Good luck - hope this helps!
