I am really loving this study bible! I have always tried to read a King James Version bible and lost interest very quickly because it was so difficult to understand. I find myself getting so involved in the learning, and I really feel like it's changing my way of thinking about my life. I am so thankful for the friend who made the suggestion to me to get this one.

When God Made You celebrates each person’s extraordinary qualities, looks, talents, and interests, recognizing each facet as a gift that has been poured into that person’s life by God Himself. The book also demonstrates to the reader that God does not just give those qualities to us to enjoy, but because He wants them to be used and shared. Every child in the book, upon being created, is issued a command: to plant, to sing, to paint, to lead… The book brings to life the reality that from the moment we are created, God has in His mind the work that He has set for us to do.

This brightly-colored board book is filled with pictures of what a child will see when they go to the Divine Liturgy. The text is simple, with a delightful rhyming pattern. The photos are basic, featuring only the item being discussed on a white background, but the colorful photos are crisp and engaging. This book is the perfect size for little hands, and offers us an opportunity to help our wee ones enter into the service when their attention needs to be redirected.

Wonderful bible study series! I highly recommend it to anyone who desires a deeper understanding of the New Testament.

The author, Frederica Mathewes-Green is a Christian Orthodox convert and wife of a priest. She holds a theology degree, has written 10 books, authored countless discourses for the likes of NPR, Christianity Today, and Ancient Faith Ministries as well as other media outlets. She is a frequent flier because of her popularity as a speaker. I find these facts to be intimidating. However, her style and books have been the most welcoming and helpful I have found on my own recent journey to Orthodoxy. She comes across as warm and approachable. This book is anecdotal and includes stories of the people she has met on her travels as well as of her own family and fellow congregants interspersed with reflections of what it is to be Orthodox. This is not a textbook or the first book one should read for an explanation of the traditions of the Orthodox church. It is a pleasant discourse, not a heavy tome of the early church fathers. It is perfect for where I am now, Orthodox for a few years but still wet behind the ears and in need of some comfort food. I can relate to many of the people whom she is telling me about because I have met their counterparts. There are moments when the storyteller in her voice steps aside for the teacher. I had to hit rewind numerous times in order to better absorb what she was explaining to me, for example the cutting of prosphora. My problem with audio books is that I have not found a satisfactory way to underline, highlight and write in the margins. To me this book deserves all of those things, but if I had held a paper book, or downloaded a kindle version I would have missed her voice which was as comforting as the lasagna she talks about in the final chapter.

Archimandrite Meletios Webber has written a very intriguing book about the Orthodox Faith. Being born into the faith I still seemed to have several “aha” moments. I did feel at times this book was a bit heavy and I had some deep pondering moments. I also journaled during the reading of this book so I could go write down questions or comments while reading. I did love how the book was laid out. It had a wonderful flow that worked well for an audiobook. There were chapters on the Holy Mysteries of Holy Eucharist, Chrismation, Baptism, Confesion, however, the book was more about Divine Liturgy. It said how we must be present fully during this time to worship God and build a relationship with Him. This book is a good introduction for anyone wanting to learn about the Orthodox Faith because of the way it combined theology and the Holy Mysteries. This is a book that I would pass on to anyone who asks about Orthodox Faith.

I love this prayer book. I use it everyday, and many times throughout the day. And I even bring it to church and read “post-communion prayers” from it for the priest. I love the pages, the icons within it, and the three book marks that come along with it.
The reason I didn’t give it a five star is because it “thou, thee, art” etc... I find it easier to pray, especially out loud, without old English. Great purchase, and I have recommend this book to any Orthodox Christian: lay or clergy!
