Healing Work: Giving Humanity a Second Chance
As an LPC myself, I recommend that many people pursue counseling for their own growth and healing. However, not everyone is able or willing to do so. Father Joshua’s book is an incredible resource for those looking to do some healing work on their own, especially if they aren’t able for any reason to pursue counseling. The hands on activities are wonderful, and Father Joshua has written the book in a way that makes complex topics easily understood by the reader. A wonderful book for healing!

Blessed Is the Kingdom: Reflections on the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom
I really enjoyed this one, and it’s already enhanced my experience of the Divine Liturgy. I read it straight through, but really the book was designed to be read as a daily devotional, and now we’re going through it that way as a family.
The book breaks down the major components and individual prayers of the liturgy and goes to great lengths to address the common complaint that liturgy is the same every week. Father has many great suggestions for ways to pray for specific things as the litanies are prayed corporately. I struggle to make my brain work that quickly during the actual service, but I love the ideas he provides.
Whether you’re cradle Orthodox, converting, or somewhere in between, you’ll see the liturgy with new eyes after reading.
Thank you to Ancient Faith Publishing for a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Practicing Prayer: A Daily Workbook
I bought 4 copies of the workbook. I have given two away already.
I am on lesson 4 now. I have scanned through the book, and it seems pretty good from my quick review. I am giving it a 4 star now because I have not yet gone through the entire book. So far, I like the workbook. It may be a 5-star book but I cannot say so at this point in time.

The Gospel of John: Beholding the Glory
Lawrence Farley's gospel commentaries are superb. We use them for all our Sunday School prep when covering the gospels. This book is another huge blessing among his other gospel commentaries.

It's a very beautiful clip. Looks very nice in my pickup. I also have the cross in there with me. The extra crosses I bought I gave to my grandson for his pickup. Very pleased. Thank you

Wonderful, insightful and it truly explains the entire Divine Liturgy. This book should buttress the Orthodox arguments against our Protestant friends, that the Divine Liturgy is Biblically based.

I use it on my altar. It’s nice but too tight to wear. I have tried to use tint count the Jesus prayer.

The Orthodox Bible Study Companion Series (set of 13)
Father Farley’s companion series is a brilliant work of scholarship that has changed my life with its many insights. I was so moved that I phoned Father’s office to leave a message of praise and he personally answered. He is SUCH a fine man. I have two sets of this work, one which I use and another for concern of it going out of print.

Essential Orthodox Parenting Book
Parenting Toward the Kingdom: Orthodox Christian Principles of Child-Rearing
"Parenting Toward the Kingdom" is an insightful and inspiring read for any parent. The author beautifully blends practical advice with deep spiritual insights, encouraging a holistic approach to raising children with a strong moral foundation. The reflections on character development and nurturing faith are both thought-provoking and actionable.
What I appreciated most is how the book emphasizes the importance of intentional parenting, guiding children not just toward success but toward a meaningful life. The relatable anecdotes and practical tips made it easy to implement the concepts in everyday situations. This book is a must-read for anyone looking to raise their children with purpose and love. Highly recommend!

Journey to Reality: Sacramental Life in a Secular Age
Professor Zachary Porcu has written a masterful book about what Christianity has always been about: the redemption and deification of humanity through the experience of God. What is so good about this book is Porcu’s ability to write in a clear and simply manner about complex theological and cultural issues; his writing is not pompous as so many professors’ writing unfortunately is.
Porcu also very clearly explains the vast differences that now exist between the Eastern and Western worldviews; that the Eastern Christian mindset has been maintained by Orthodoxy (sacramental; physical + spiritual) whereas the Western mind is now dominated by an exclusively materialistic worldview that has little or no understanding of spiritual matters, and thus any sense of Christian “sacrament” is essentially meaningless for many, if not most, Westerners.
This book will be especially helpful to Protestants, the majority of whom are non-sacramental to begin with, and who are often unaware of just how materialistic their Christianity has become due to their Western mindset.

102 Orthodox Saints
I got this last week and immediately skimmed through the saints with my almost 4 year old son and we love it!
If you liked 101 Orthodox Saints, then this is a natural choice to purchase next. I’ll be getting an additional copy for our parish children’s library to use in church school classes. Saints abound in the Orthodox tradition and this is a kid friendly way to introduce children (and adults alike) to some of the wonderful and different saints who intercede for us!
If you aren’t familiar with 101 and 102 Orthodox Saints, then here is what I love about this series:
1. History
2. Diversity
3. Visuals
The facts and information are condensed in a way that young children are able to listen to the saints’ lives without loosing attention. The diversity shown amongst the saints by geography (maps are included with each!) and spiritual gifts shows children that they too can become a saint. Visuals in addition to maps, Saint illustrations, also include other relevant objects, symbols, and images of other saints or people relating to each saint.
