An excellent synopsis of these extra- biblical works; their purpose & usage by the Church as a whole & individual parishioners.

lovely book!

Beautiful I love it

This review is for people like me who have minimal academic background and are of an average IQ. Like all of Fr. Stephen de Young’s books, Apocrypha is well researched and carefully presented - he’s a clear and straightforward writer who is able to make complex ideas accessible. I don’t have time to slog through all the auxiliary literature surrounding the bible (or the money to spend hunting down the translations) so it was great to get an overview from someone with real academic credentials and research experience in their study within a serious academic context. To get the most out of this book you could certainly read each section as an intro and then read the actual work it references. But for me that would just be a waste of time: I wouldn’t understand them. I’ve forced myself to read premodern writing before and no matter how hard I try it stays as clear as mud. I have no context at all for it and so it ends up being gibberish. Having read Father de Young’s other work as well as listening to his many podcasts I feel confident in the accuracy of his summaries and I can now apply what I’ve learned to what’s of primary importance: The scriptures themselves.

As a catechumen, this book really put into perspective what the journey to drawing closer to God through Orthodoxcy. It was a great introduction.

Very readable and informative. An excellent addition to Fr. Stephen's writings and podcastings.

Apocrypha opens up the world of Christianity in its first centuries. Christianity developed i a world d of competing religions and theories. This volume introduced Orthodox to that world. What I found helpful was the glossary and list of writings in the back.

this book is such an eye opener.

Beautiful leather, even more beautiful bible!

I actually have the two volume set of the Apocrypha spoken of in this book. It is like reading the Silmarillion, a sure cure for insomnia.. Father Stephen does an excellent job of summarizing and recapitulating the Apocrypha texts and explaining them. It is a must read for people wanting to know about the Apocrypha but lacking the broad learning it takes to truly understand the vivid imagery. Thank you Father Stephen for such a fine work, now I may go back and reread of the passages he refers to.

I gifted it to my mother . She loves it and is using daily. Even though she is a Protestant she finds the prayers useful and the structure comforting

Lovely little bracelet. Purchased as a first communion gift for a Catholic friend. It arrived promptly and I thought it was a nice gift at a moderate price.

Found this book very helpful. It's also on Audible, I like listening while I'm reading. Really enjoyed this book

Opened me to a new way of thinking

After reading Healing Your Wounded Soul: Growing From Pain to Peace, I knew I wanted to read this book. I read it during Lent, and it was very edifying. I shared it with someone else in the parish who felt the same way. This book builds off the framework of the first book, but very well could be a stand alone book. It provides practical exercises for healing work related to traumatic events. This is a perfect pairing with professional therapy and can help people identify points of further healing.

Great book! It helps to provide an easy to understand framework for the healing work related to traumatic events, and it's role in developing your spiritual life. It gives examples on how traumatic events can color present realities and the fruits of the spirit that will form when we begin the journey of healing. This is a useful book for anyone who has experienced a traumatic event or knows anyone who has suffered a traumatic event.

Very helpful.

Gorgeous Bible!!! Couldn't ask for anything better. What a fabulous gift this would make!

I've wanted a greater understanding of the Psalms. When I saw CHRIST IN THE PSALMS I was intrigued and wanted to read it. I am not a bit disappointed. It is excellent! Don't miss this book about the Psalms.

One of the best books! It took me back to my visit there when I was 12. It was like visiting with old friends as I read this book. Fr Nathaniel on the cover of the book, was our guide/host for the day & he was described just how I remember him. Love this book!
