52v Panasonic 13.5ah Shark Pack
Mongoose XR Pro with Luna BBSHD, Shark battery. Had to modify mounting on battery to fit frame. Battery is bolted to the frame using blind nuts on battery mounting plate. Battery will only fit when fully assembled, won't unlatch from mount. Chain ring bling with matching throttle grips. Converted to Shimano hydraulic disk brakes with floating rotors. Added air shock for rear suspension. Rides like a dream, and boy is it fast!

Fourth Anniversary BBSHD Mid Drive Kit Special
Really great experience learning to install everything, however I would have liked a channel with a video on how to install everything clearly. I had to do a lot of searching online when I got stuck on steps and was struggling to find the key words to solve my problem so I could proceed with my installlation. Otherwise though, I would do this process over again if I could.

Great, light and easy bike. Easy to drive and maneuver on trails. Not the best for moto cross especially for heavy riders, but as for the trails it is the best.
My two bodies have sold their haevy and noisy KTM and Yamaha and ordered this one after I gave them to try what is this in the forest trail.

60 amp 36-72v Ebike Bluetooth Programmable Controller
This was my first attempt at building a "kit" style e-bike. After months of research I purchased a new bike and then planned my order. Even after building several hot rods in my youth I was still a bit intimidated about installing a kit on my bike. I jumped in with both feet and ordered the Cyclone 3k, 52v-17ah battery and the 60a bluetooth controller.
Even taking my time I had the kit installed in less than 2 hours. I spent over 4 hours adjusting, routing, packing, zip-tieing and making sure it looked clean. I never had a single problem with anything I ordered or installed. Luna did warn that this kit probably wouldn't work with a 1-11 cassette and chain (which is what this bike came with) and they are correct. In the photos the bike is equipped and running the 11 speed cassette and it works, but you can tell it's looking for a reason not to. It's done well for a shake-down run on the rest of the system.
Most frustrating thing about the build? Getting the correct bluetooth app for my phone that worked. That took some beer to figure out.
A huge "Thank you!" to Luna Cycle for the kit, install vids, and stuff that gave me the ability to build a bike that's faster than anything I could have bought. I'm a happy old man.

This is a long term dream of mine realized. A bike with the battery where it needs to be to have a balanced ride with a range that allows me to take it seriously as transportation.
This is the fourth e-bike I've built. The others were all front hub motors with three lead acid batteries from Keyko. Total weight of batteries was 21 pounds and 15 pounds for the front wheel. This BBSHD build is only 25.
I took an old 1996 Mongoose I've had for the last 21 years and "upgraded" it by adding a Luna Cycle BBSHD (hotrod version).
The finish was a simple clear coat that was so old it was yellow and so brittle I was able to easily scrape the finish off with a stainless steel guitar pick. I then polished it with Mother's Billet metal polish.
This is a standard bottom bracket so I used the 68mm to 73mm version of the BBSHD.
I ordered a softpack 48 volt, 24AH battery with a 46 mile range, 36 leaving 20% in it always. I oversized this battery massively to make sure it was having only light demands put on it. This will easily power a cyclone 3000 watt motor.
The list of gear purchased for this build:
From LunaCylcle:
BBSHD
48v 24AH 1.1 Kilowatt battery capable of 3000 watt peaks and 50 amp continuous
Smart Charger
Gear sensor
right half twist throttle (I hated this thing, recommend not using this and getting a thumb throttle. It's much safer)
36t Luna Chain ring
Killswitch
thumb throttle (right hand)
Triangle Battery Bag
From various suppliers:
26" tubeless ready wheels, DT swiss rims with Shimano Deore hubs
Continental CrossKing 'all around' tubeless/ebike ready MTB tires,
Stans no tubes sealant
DT Swiss tubeless rim tape
tubeless presta valve stem
9 speed cassette (bike coop)
9 speed derailleur (bike coop)
Chaser Technologies disc brake conversion kit (http://www.chasertech.com/disc-brake.html)
Shimano SM RT64 disc rotors
Old disc calipers I found at the bike coop
Rock Shox Judy TT (bike coop)
Center Kick Stand
Heavy Duty KMC 8 speed chain
Adjustable Headset (bike coop)
Bike Rack, Heavy Duty 310 Lbs. capacity
heavy duty toggle switch with rubber boot
Headlight (4 5 watt LEDS) 48v
Taillight 48v
ABS plastic 1/4 "
cable operated throttle for motor cycle
Tools/Supplies Purchased for this build:
Rotor/cassette lockring tool
chain whip tool
Liquid Electrical Tape
Dielectric Grease
Permatex Black Plastic Weld
Marine Grade Dual wall Adhesive Lined Shrink Tube
Heat Shrink Solder Sleeve Crimpless Butt Conectors
Crank Extractor
This is a really awesome e-bike build. I've done three others but they were all hub motors.
With a 36 tooth chain ring on the front and a 34 tooth as a first gear it climbs right up the hills here on the front range in CO.
It still achieves 30mph. The wide gear spacing is better for the BBSHD. Since the 36t has almost no offset, I had to install an extra long limit screw to limit the derailleur to the fourth cog turning a nine speed into a five speed. However, the chain still falls off now and then so I think I'll be turning that set screw in and starting my first gear on the fifth cog and that will most likely stop. The 36t chain ring is a narrow wide chain ring so I should see that problem disappear then.
I will say that after changing the right hand half twist throttle (which I think is dangerous) for the cable operated throttle I was amazed at how awesome this really is. It's so much more natural feeling than that half twist.
This is a mostly waterproofed e-bike, protected against corrosion and that will make this last a lot longer than it otherwise would.
This bike is seriously fun!
Thank you Luna Cycle for being so awesome!

Luna Eclipse Chain Ring For the BBSHD (Face Only)
daily bicycle commuter, around 10 hilly miles each way, with 300 foot plus elevation gain both ways... initially installed the BBSHD kit/Wolf battery/Eclipse 42-tooth on my old Stumpjumper (CroMoly hardtail, 26" wheels), but Seattle weather prefers disc brakes, so I picked up a used Novaro Big Buzz (6061 aluminum hardtail, 700C wheels, mechanical discs) and re-installed the setup with a new Eclipse 48-tooth... top gear ratio went from 42/13 to 48/11, which upped my top speed significantly while my low gear ratio went from 42/30 to 48/28 which still pulls up the steep hills just fine... still prefer the ride of my old Stumpy, but with better bad weather braking the Big Buzz is safer in traffic... these BBSxx systems are far less fiddly than whatever bike you end up putting them on

Luna Eclipse 48T Chain Ring for the BBSHD
Good experience with Luna cycle staying in touch and getting the kit out to me pretty quick. With my Nishiki Colorado, I opted for the 1500 watt bbshd with the Luna wolf pack. I also got the 48 tooth eclipse chain ring. I didn’t order the install tool but I got it on right with an aluminum rod and a hammer. I’m very happy with the bbshd and it’s performance. Currently getting me to 35mph top speed. Also it’s holding up to rain riding along with the screen and throttle. The complaint I do have however is with the wolf pack. The quality of the pack is great with the high quality cells and the xt-90 with robust wires. It has fallen off my bike many times and survived hard hits pretty much unscathed. But there lays the problem. The mounting system for the wolf pack is inadequate for almost any type of riding. Out of the box, the magnets mounted in the bottle mounts are so close together making it extremely easy for the battery to tip back and forth. This causes the battery to make its way down the bike until it hits the front chain ring. Even the slightest drop of about 3 inches causes the battery to rock and move down a few inches. And with the height of say going off a large curb, the battery will easily fall completely off the bike. I wasn’t sure if it was just due to the spacing of the bottle mount holes on my bike so I decided to combat the issue by drilling a hole in the tube of my bike to remount and space out the magnets. This did cause a decent improvement as the battery wasn’t completely flopping around like it was before, but it would only be suitable for smooth road riding with no bumps or curbs. But I have a mountain bike that I mostly use for commuting but during my commute I like to ride over curbs and bumps not to mention taking it on actual trails. I had to resort to zip ties to keep it in place temporarily but this was far from a permanent solution because I lock my bike up outside every day and it would be too easy for someone to simply cut the zip tie and take my expensive battery. So I decided to order the ottolock which luna cycle sells and recommends for using with the wolf pack. My hopes were that it would solve both issues of security and holding by battery in place. A few things about the ottolock:
It’s long- even the shortest ottolock which is what I got is way too long for putting around a single bike tube. When installed, there is about 10 inches of slack that can either stick out and not allow you to pedal, or be bent awkwardly somewhere under the battery where it still sticks out but not as much.
It’s not very secure- the Otto lock is made of rubber and thin metal. Unfortunately it can easily be cut by a cheap pair of tin snips (video on YouTube). The ottolock is not quite flexible enough to wrap around the down tube of the bike and sit flush even on my bikes thick tube. So it leaves the space for someone with snips to easily cut it. Anyway, even with the security issues aside, it doesn’t perform how I wanted. The other day, I was riding my daily commute and I had the Ottolock as tight as I could make it. I went over what was basically a large curb about 10 inches high and when I landed, my bike came grinding to a stop. The battery had flipped off of the magnets and was hanging on the bottom of the down tube by the ottolock. It had fallen Onto the chainring and the power wire got caught between the motor and the chainring. The power cable ended up getting slightly shredded but it still ran. When I got home I covered the wire with heatshrink. I contacted Luna cycle to tell them about my mounting troubles. They said to try Velcro straps which to me doesn’t seem to be a permanent solution, but I should give it a shot. Overall the battery is great. It is just the mounting system that failed me. I was intigued by the video Luna has of the man lifting the bike from the battery with nothing but the magnets holding it up. I can tell you for a fact that this is impossible on my bike. I have tried many times and the battery just comes straight off.
The Luna eclipse chainring however has done great. It’s held up as well as give me a perfect chain line. My bike wouldn’t even run with the standard chainring because it hit the chain stay so I’m glad I ordered the eclipse.

Got this bike to get to the deer stand fast and quiet . It has surpassed my expectations , i can roam around all weekend without ever having to recharge it , and if i go slow it's super quiet. make a winding noise at higher speed , but even then it's allot quieter than any motor vehicle. i ran up on a deer on my way to the stand in the dark and they didn't run , they just looked at me ... pretty cool!

My upgrade to a Luna BBS02 middrive has been a great experience. I had been using a GM Magic Pie 2 Hubmotor for a couple of years but the cheap quality rims kept getting bent and spokes came loose all the time. The new middrive ftom Luna is a vast improvement. It’s faster, better, on hills and lets me use the stock high quality rims. There is about 100% less resistance from the motor when peddling. I had a couple of tweaks I needed to do to get the full 1000 watts from the motor and Luna customer service helped me a lot They actually credited me the cost of the usb programming cable because I ordered it afterwards to get the full 25 amps to my motor because the controller had not been hotrodded from the stock 750 watts. Great customer service and good quality gear. By the way, I bought a Luna 17.5 ah 48 volt killer whale pack exactly two years ago and it has been reliably working on my 27 mile round trip commute in the cold rainy Pacific Northwest Still charges up to near optimal level and no signs of it getting worn out. Also have had a Luna 3amp charger, Luna Cyclops headlight and taillight for over 3 years and working just like new.
One thing on the BBS02. I originally ordered it with 48 tooth chainring but downgraded that to a Bafang 42 tooth because I was worried about stressing the motor at hills and intersections. I highly recommend this setup as it still gives you good mid 20s top speed but doesn’t make you shift down super low as much.
I think Luna is a great company to buy from and they have good gear, prices, customer service and are the cutting edge of things.
