Battery was shipped quickly and functions as expected. No problems so far.

I hunt with a friend who bought a big name $$$ high dollar bike. I researched and found Luna Cycle.
I decided on a BBSHD. I couldn’t be happier!! That unit has 4x the torque of others. I scout and hunt the Florida swamps with dogs. I can go where very few other people can.
I have had the motor completely submerged in rivers and swamp. Although not recommended to do this it got me out of the woods problem free. I have 2 friends that have bought the same kit after seeing what mine does!
Simple install, great support, great service!!! I have owned swamp buggies, airboats, and 4 wheelers. This bike with the BBSHD is a stealth tool like no other. I can quietly scout areas further than anyone else can go! LOVE IT!!!

Product quality is fantastic. Team was very helpful at answering questions (I recommend using the chat to ask questions before purchasing - response time was fast and accurate). One area for improvement would be to highlight when things are 'out of stock' rather than just removing them - I was a bit confused when I couldn't find the item I wanted - rather than having it not show up on the list, just highlight that it's on backorder preferably with estimated date of availability.

Overall, would highly recommend Lunacycle. Everything met expectations - no problems or issues. Tons of documentation, which I appreciate. Keep up the good work!

Build: I watched a number of installation videos so I was pretty familiar with how the motor kit should be installed, it was very straight forward. The X-Rod had good gear housing to chainstay clearance when I used one spacer. I was able to install the 42T Lekkie without an issue. Chain line came out pretty good, although it would have been perfect if I could have bought Luna’s 42T Eclipse chainring but they were out of stock. The battery fit perfectly on the water bottle mounting points. In all, it was a very clean build!

First ride: Wow, so nice! Very quiet with lots of power. I live on the top of a hill that I figured would be an issue getting my 200lbs going from a dead stop. The HD eats up this hill from a dead stop in any gear! I love the 500c display which is hardly noticeable yet big enough to see what’s going on. I’ve only taken this on a few short test rides since it’s been cold and rainy but I couldn’t be happier with this build and want to thank Luna for such great products and all the info they provide!

Luna was easy to deal with. Even reached a real, helpful human on the phone a couple of times, although this was probably made possible by the fact that it was the off season. The BBSHD and triangle pack are simply awesome and so much cheaper and more powerful than a store bought ebike.

Awesome bike! Sturdy and dependable. The motor and battery are a beast. Selected this bike because the labor, bike, parts, and upgrades included were cheaper and better than I could do it by myself. Even better, I knew it would work when it showed up. Arrived quickly and extremely easy to set up (didn't take more than 30 minutes). The color of the Green Machine is much more pleasing in person than the stock photo shows (darker, more of a tree frog green than a neon green).

I use the bike to commute every day to and from work. Only downside is the weight (quite heavy). Recommend getting the BBSHD cable because as soon as you get one you'll want to start messing with it.

Does exactly what it says. Note that it ships with a female XT60 connector and also a female-to-male adapter. If you have a barrel plug on your battery, you'll need either female or male XT60 to barrel. Luna sells this as a separate product. Ideally it would ship with the charger, or at least be an add-on option directly from the product page.

My MTB crank spider is about 3mm [⅛”] between the smallest and middle chain-ring. So I found 11mm ID split-ring lock-washers that are 3.3-3.5mm thick had to be bent them back to flat [long handled plyers and vice] to bolt them down with round head 5mm x .80 pitch threads 25mm long. Nylon spacers are a different thicknes and can compress, so I had to use steel spacers.

The space between the outer chainwheel [motor sprocket driven] and the middle does not need a spacer if using luna's heavy duty “chainwheels” because the heavy duty 40t chainring will not flex like the computer engineered chainrings will.

I think I could use regular chainring bolts if I could get them 16mm long, then the 5mm bolts would not be needed. But the chainring bolts interfier with the chain on the 32t chainwheel.

The image on luna's website showing a tripple crank, shows the round heads on the wrong side. The lock-nuts will not fit under the crank arm. But they do-not rub against anything on the bike side.

These “chainwheels” don't shift as easy as the computer engineered kind but they will last much longer. So I slow down and shift before I start climbing our 16% grade hills drawing about 1400watts from the battery pack.

bbshd plus the 2018 salsa blackborow is an unstoppable force. i can go anywhere, anytime, without worries or issues. this is a full-sized SUV that handles like a dream. bbshd and an 11-speed cassette provide plenty of GO, and hydraulic sram 180's provide plenty of STOP. i have added custom foam pvc fenders and a hauling area on the cargo rack since these pictures were taken. loving the mini-display ... currently, 48V @ 13.5 ampH -- will be watching the sales bins for 52V parts.

I love this bike and would definitely buy it again! Don’t really have any complaints with it, except that the default screen for the BBSO2 dose not show battery life right. It dies at 2 bars remaining due to it measuring wattage. But over all very happy! Thank you LUNA!

Part arrived really quickly and does the job brilliantly

Very helpful with support on this build. Support team answered all my questions promptly. Had a bad speed controller and Luna sent me a replacement quickly and I was on the road This bike rips. So much torque that it wheelies and I weigh 240. Tons of fun. I commute to work everyday and have had no issues. Love it. I I am going to build it on a better bike soon cause this is a cheap bike and I have broken a lot of the cheap parts. Was fairly easy to install if you are mechanical. Thanks again Luna Cycles

A friend of mine who lives in southern China attended Interbike 2018 then came by my place in the Seattle area. He was excited that the US had begun embracing electric bikes but did say we were about 5 years behind Europe and China. He got me excited to begin reviewing all of the newly available Bosch, Brosa, and other e-bikes. I'm a bit of an early adopter and actually owned an electric bike about 12 years ago - a Merida which was made in Taiwan. I quickly learned that I wanted a mid-motor set up to best utilize the torque and gearing of the cassette. I'm also an avid cyclist and first thought that I wanted a road or city bike to commute around with. I also decided I wanted something that was faster than my Merida which topped out at 20mph. Based on my experience and research, I knew I would need disc brakes. I also realized that a road bikes become very uncomfortable at speeds over 25mph due to skinny high pressure tires. After considering my options, price came into play with prices starting around $3000 and going up to over $6000 for a ready to ride Class 3. After weighing how I was going to "sell" the idea to my spouse I knew I needed to stay under $2000 which limited my options to lower end e-bikes. After considerable research and endless electricbikereview.com videos, I found out about Luna and decided building my own bike was the way to go. I already had 4 bikes at my disposal and decided to convert my 2008 Giant VT2. I knew that battery placement was be an issue due to small triangle and found some videos where the battery hung from below the downtube. After researching options I found a fastener that acted like a molly-bolt expanding once you place the fastener into the holes. I also wanted the 1500 watt version of the BBSHD and the c750 monitor. The build was fun but getting the front chainring centered for the chainline was an issue. I ended up buying the 42 tooth Bling Ring which allows me to use the 9-speed 11-36 cassette. The bike will do about 35 with just a bit of tuck which is faster than I feel comfortable with but is allows me to get into traffic if I need a boost. Terrific project for sure.

Build generally went well and as planned for a first-timer. Luna was "as advertised" with good products and information online, though its on you to find what you need and ask questions as you have them. Also, battery I wanted was out of stock for over a month, so had to go elsewhere for that.

I took my time with the build, but it was a very doable project. Mostly done over two Sunday afternoons, but had to spread work over a few weeks to wait on various parts. Bike works great.

Challenges I faced: 1) had to grind bottom bracket to fit motor, 2) battery install on down tube required some special drilling/fabrication into the base to fit, 3) first chainring (Luna Eclipse 42T) did not have sufficient offset and I had to get a Lekkie, 4) brake sensors were difficult to attach to Shimano hydraulic levers--had to do some DYI engineering to make them work.

Ordering was easy, shipment came in, box was kinda beat up. But no damage done cause of the packaging. Luna has more than enough info on their site.

Fun bike with the fenders and rack and the extra battery some mods to the fork and handlebars it's a great ride.
