I converted a Rans Alterra last month and loved it so much I did another. Bike is light, fast and has enormous range - especially since it isn't even necessary to use power when riding on relatively flat ground. Luna Cycle components are a home run!

I felt in love with my Sur-Ron.Thanks for beeing part of the electric revolution. You have created a new sport that is going to be so popular ; EMX . I have been pushing the limits with this bike (a flat tire, broke a chain, broke a timing belt ... ect). It jumps like a downhill bike but it is powerful like a dirtbike. On top of that, it is very quiet. I bought the 60 tooth sprocket and it upgraded the power so much on the bike that I dont have any desire to ride gaz MX. Everything has been designed well so it's easy to work on the bike. Also, parts that are used are easy to replace ; I can find them at my local powersport shop. Thanks you for this great EMX.

Luna Is great. Fastest bikes around. I have gotten all my brothers involved. Couldn't convince my dad.......he bough a hai-bike.......he is very jealous of our bikes.

This is my new commuter vehicle. I have stopped paying car insurance.
Building this was cheaper then any motorcycle in the area and carried with it less baggage then being a motorcycle owner. Being able to ride trails was definitely a plus. Build is a BBSHD with 42T Lekkie Bling Ring and a 52V LunaCycle GA shark battery on a Kona Kula 2-9 Frame with god knows what tires rims and front shock. Having a blast with this bike, Ive even inspired my friends to build ebikes themselves.

I had the BBS02 kit from my EZ1 transplanted onto my Easy Racers Tour Easy. This bike is so lite that even with the motor and battery on it I can forget its there and lift it into my truck. The combo of lite bike and powerful motor make this a super fast, super smooth commuter. I cruise at 18 mph and never break a sweat. I get to work wishing I could go out and ride another 8 miles. 12 hours later I finally get my wish in the form of my ride home. Definitely an E ticket ride.

Always wanted to commute to work at a college, but I live up a 1.5 mile 7% grade hill. I couldn't see myself lugging laptop and books up that hill every day - until a friend got his Luna Cycle kit to make a bike for motor pacing inline skaters. Aha! There was the solution, and what a great one it is. I haven't calculated the savings on gas and wear and tear on the car, but what the hell, it is a kick to ride and I can still get a lot of good exercise. Thanks!

I liked the idea of DIY electric bike, but wasn't sure if DIY kits are the way to go. Luna made the idea a reality for $1000. I have ridden e-bikes that were manufacutred by Felt and I have to say my DIY build is just as good as factory made. I could have used better instructions for battery charger because Shark battery controls are kind of useless. Overall it was a good experience. Let's hope my significant other likes it as much.

2018 - After discovering LUNA at the start of the year, it's been amazing spending much of the time and resources I could spare exploring what could be possible for me. I'm learning a ton, and I feel great about my ability to put together bikes that achieve amazing performance value for the dollars invested. This Bombtrack is the first frame/bike that I bought new. I noticed the Goliath of selling all products had a size large frame-set for $282 when the other sizes were about $700. It arrived in the two days in immaculate condition in a beat up box. I ordered great brakes, built wheel with IGH, and a few other parts from the German retailer that so often is considerably cheaper option and consistently arrives in ten days. I needed to have a FSA PF30 to english threaded BB adapter pressed and glued in for me. A fresh LUNA BBSHD with hot rod programming , an XT90 connector, and a 30q Wolf Pack turned this stiff frame cross bike with high quality components into a city street shredder that is incredibly fun to ride. I'm pleased to report that I just ordered my second brand new frame. At the start of the year, a LUNA Rhino didn't seem attainable. I have some work ahead of me, but for $370, I was just able to order the LUNA RHINO FAT FRAME, battery box, fork, handlebar, racks, and fenders (all of these designed and custom manufactured for LUNA), and fat rims and tires for a start to get some wheels for it put together! An adventure is ahead for sure. Loving the END OF SUMMER SALE!

My first install was a BBSHD on a fat bike. I was riding a race or a hybrid 12 miles to work in an hour. With a heavy fat bike, it took 45 mins. My goal is 30 minutes which would be the same as a car. I decided to put a Cyclone 3000 on a used (but new to me) recumbent and use the same 52V Dolphin battery with another bracket. Although the build was days instead of hours, the power is tremendous. I get to work in 35 mins. I am satisfied with the time, although I still find at its fastest, I cannot add any input. So now I am waiting for a 60-tooth front cog which will work because of the mid mid-drive setup. I did have to weld a motor bracket and a front derailleur hanger. I did get the three-way switch and the PAS, neither of which I use. I thought cruise control that comes with the switch sounded cheesy, but I do use it at times. I also bought a used trike and I am planning another build with a Cyclone. I do love my fat bike build, it’s great off road and on snow it’s the best thing ever. I even bought studded ice tires after I tried it on a frozen river without success.
The Cyclone is great because of the gear reduction allowing you to add input at speeds you cannot on the BBSHD, but it is a much harder install. After the torque turned the bolted-on bracket, the welder came out. After it kept losing the chain in the lowest gear because of chain line issues, I had take apart an old derailleur to fix that. Once it’s dialed in though, it’s the best.

I bought two Dahon Boardwalk folding bikes off Craigslist and converted them to eBikes using the Luna/Bafang 750W mid-drive kit. They go RVing us and we no longer bring a tow vehicle since we have incredible range with the bikes.

My BBS02 went completely "nuts" had no pas and only full throttle. But with the help of the program usb cable and the information i found on LUNA's website it works better than ever before.

I put self lubricating screw l use lps white grease food lube and l use too silicon sealed cover no sand in the motor

Used 2 4mm spacers to move the offset away from the chainstay on the drive side. Installed the luna eclipse with 2 spacers which placed the chain dead center over the cluster. Works very well. The bike can go up anything. Only probably need like 3 gears with this much power. Going to get maxis minion dhf 26x2.8's in the future

My chain line on 2000 specialized enduro pro bbshd 48v 14ah build was out of wack. the Luna chaining helped tremendously. after 200 miles 3 of the bolts did loosen up a bit, so check them occasionally.

I never thought that i could have so much fun on a bike. I have put 1100+ miles on this thing so that I could give it a proper review and love it to death. The install was a little finicky, but nothing that your average person who works on bikes now and again shouldn't be able to figure out.

I have a 48 tooth standard chainring in the front, and with 11 teeth in the smallest gear in the back, i can still go 30-35 mph without pedaling too cartoon character fast. I was originally going to go with 52 teeth in the front, but it didn't leave me enough clearance over the chain stay. No matter, the 48 has been plenty big enough.

A few things I've learned...

I didn't end up installing the e-brake sensors as they were a PITA with my model of hydraulic disc brakes. I haven't missed them for road riding and don't see them as necessary for that application. On trails, I think you would want them though.

No gear sensor either... a quick quarter turn back pedal works just fine to not grind the gears. I don't even bother with that in power setting 1-2/5.

I get about 35 MPH per charge with a 48V 13.5 AH shark pack, riding mostly at level 3/5, 30 MPH on average once up to speed.

I only have a couple of gripes.

(1) The damn chain keeps coming off despite my best efforts to keep it on, and it's only getting worse as the stock chainring is slowly getting worn down. I can usually keep it on if I shift carefully and watch the angle of the bike going over bumps, but it really cramps my style. Part of the point of an e-bike is to be able to mob through shit at speed with relative reckless abandon. The stock chain ring just doesn't cut it. I'll definitely be ponying put the extra cash for a Lekkie as soon as mine wears out. I expect that it will be toast by 2000 miles.

(2) The motor keeps rattling loose every few hundred miles. No amount of tightening seems to fix it and I'm starting to wear concerning grooves in the bottom bracket shell. The perfect amount/thickness of washers for the attachment plate (given my 73mm bottom bracket) seems to help, but has not fully solved the problem. I'm debating buying the socket set so that I can use more torque than the $20 Luna tool will allow, but I'm not sure if that will even help. I'm already deforming the aluminum BB shell as it is.

Lastly, the motor gets pretty uncomfortably warm (on the outside, to the touch) when riding in hot weather >90 degrees. This happens riding downhill or over level ground on level 3/5 with a fast cadence, babying the motor as much as possible. I don't know the internal temp as I am yet to install a probe, but it worries me. On the way into work in the morning when it's cool, I push the motor a lot harder going up a pretty big hill and it barely warms up at all. The ambient temp outside seems to make a big difference.

Despite the few negatives, I love the bike and the kit from Luna. I've been bike commuting 3000+ miles for over a decade and love my ride more than ever.

Other than that, the experience has been awesome.

That's exactly what I need, living in NYC, small rooms, nightmare commuter. I used to have a 29 inches Raleigh, just too big. This moss bicycle is very powerful at 20 inches wheels, it feels like turbo machine. People and cars see me and they don't think I will be there in the next second, it's dangerous if you don't pay attention. I weight 210 lbs. And 5'9 tall, no way you can say it's small for me. And it goes over 25 mph. Very nice , no complaints.

Bafang BBSHD with Wolfpack and eclipse chain ring is the way I went. Half twist throttle on left side to replace the front gear half twist that no longer is used. Perfect video installation guides on utube. I had to dremel a nub off inside crank case but other than that easy install. Great experience.
